This hospital and school suck. I cannot stand these people. It has got to be illegal to mandate/force people to get vaccines that they don't want or need. Why is this not illegal? This is some "stuff". I'm so flipping frustrated about this because I'm paying for this damn class and I just want to get what I need and be done with it. But because I don't want a flu shot I'm being penalized by not being able to participate. I tried to discuss this with my teacher but he just doesn't get it.

Now I'm at a crossroads. Do I stand my ground and likely be forced out of the class, because this is a huge part of it, or do I give in and get the vaccine?

My life would be much easier if I would just be a pushover and didn't care about my autonomy. Instead I make my life difficult for trying to stand up for myself, on the rare occasions I have to.

CocoT, is there something in writing that says that is mandatory to take the shot? Was that the policy before you took the class?

I say take the shot and get what you need to get done. I'm a not a fan of vacs but I remember I had to get a MMR shot before I was allowed to enroll at my university.

Coco, take the shot, finish the class and be out.

Recognize if you go into the medical field....hospitals, nursing home and such can and many do require specific shots. No different than schools requiring specific vaccines. These are guidelines setforth by the insurance underwriter of the business.

I've never heard of a forced flu shot before.

That being said I'm probably the one person on the planet who's gotten them since childhood and has never suffered any side effects. Which is why I don't understand why everyone is against them. They don't harm me, I've never really really been sick either except maybe once in my life. sinus infections, colds etc, don't count because I'm not a baby. I'm a grown a55 woman and I have been since 3rd grade. Like my daddy always says, quit crying. Suck it up.

quit crying, coco, get the damn shot.

and if you get sick, don't get mad at me cause you the one listening to my directions, not my fault youse a doormat...

Oh my goodness Soleilmoncur I'm so sorry to hear that. I'll definitely keep you and you family in my thoughts.

A childhood friend of mines passed last week as well from heart issues. Her and Dawnyele really have me thinking about heart health, and how we may skip pass the issue because of our age. I know I tend to think of elderly people as the ones who have heart attacks not young women in their early 30's. Heart disease is the #1 killer of women and I honestly wasn't seeing it until now. I plan on getting a full physical because it just seems this issue comes out of nowhere (symptom wise) when it too late.

No. The syllabus doesn't list the flu vaccine as required, but the other ones are in there (hepatitis, measles, rubella, mumps). But the teacher said the hospital "mandated" it. I couldn't find that policy on the website though. And as far as those immunizations Are concerned, I was already immune so I didn't need to get them. I got them years ago but I didn't have much choice in the matter. And I don't recall the flu vaccine ever being required by university in general, which is likely due to the time of the year of enrollment and flu vaccines becoming available in October. When i asked who i can speak to at the hospital and about the new policy, he just gave me a generic response because he didn't want to be bothered.

Whatever. I can't win. My individual protests never amount to anything. I knew I'd likely be forced into getting it. I was trying to push the limit though.

I was reading some news articles about hospitals and healthcare facilities mandating the shot because if they fill a quota, where something like 90 to 95% of staff gets the flu vaccine (not the others, this is just the flu vaccine), they get some coin from the somewhere. It is either the Health department or the pharmaceutical company. Or maybe it's the government. One of them. And they are doing this because there is a vaccination interest/lobby groups that has persuaded the hospitals, government and pharmaceutical companies to implement these policies and conditions because the rate of healthcare workers getting the shot is low. Some states have gone as far to require masks for those that do not get the flu vaccine, suspension and even termination.

And I do think the flu vaccine is a little different than the others because they have more reliable data on their efficacy.

But I have no choice. Walgreens here I come arty5:
