People do act like type 4 hair is dreadful...and some even have the nerve to question you if you claim to be happy with it -- "Be honest...you know you would prefer a looser texture!!!" Folks are a trip. There are so many misconceptions regarding natural hair until it's not even funny. There is this huge misconception that the hair will grow at a ridiculously fast rate, that it will be wash & go like you can actually simply wash your hair and run out of the house, and that you are guaranteed a curl pattern of some sort. You can have a loose curl pattern, extremely tight one, or none at all. I don't see what the issue is. If you discover that you don't have a loose curl pattern and you want one then simply texturize or texlax! There is no shame in it IMO. Outside of that, no hair product will miraculously transform the hair from 4b to 3b, 4a to 3a or anything of that nature. Gel and hair creams are not magic wands. Love what you have!
People tend to get offended when you share your opinion or a truth w/them when they asked you for your opinion in the first place. We have already said many times that the hair typing system is not one size fits all. There are no gold stars awarded for a certain hair type. The grass is always greener on the other side. I remember being in college and my RA who had 2b-3a-ish hair was always spending hours on her on it and she would be so frustrated.
Another thing I don't understand is the defensive attitude, "You just want my hair to be a certain type! You are denying me an opportunity to have 3xyz hair!" What does it benefit me to deny your hair anything? I don't believe anybody is sitting back saying, "Hah! I denied another type 3!!!" What exactly is wrong with having type 4 hair anyway? Why is that the leper of natural hair? I know many type 4s who get compliments all day about their hair. Is it compliments and attention people are seeking? I'm really trying to understand this.
Oh, and multitextured hair is not 4a roots, 3a middle, 2a ends.
I really hope I do not come off as being mean. That is certainly not my intentions, but being honest and presenting facts is what I try to do when I present anything to anyone. It may hurt when you learn the truth or you may feel silly when you discover what you believed is not a fact, but don't be mad about it. It's just hair.
I'm done preaching.
Then, we got the folks who think we don't know what time it is. We don't know heat damage, from legit texture. You give them time to fess up...you let them know early on that somethin' ain't right with their scenario. BUT they insist on playin' bald headed games.
