Clearly the history of POC should be incorporated in American History after all this time, but when I was growing it simply wasn't taught where I lived. The federal government expanded it from a week to a month in 1976. That is less than 40 years ago. So while it may seem like a long time, it really isn't. Now is the time to strive to have all people of color achievements incorporated into American History overall.

Bought paint and art supplies today as well as signed up for my french language exam for uni that I will take at the end of the month!

And trying REAL hard not to contact my ex just-because. My mind is like "You have no F-ing reason to cause he's an butt and it's not good for you" and my heart be all like "Please. I just want to hear from him".

I wanna beat myself up some times.

I found my sister about 7 years ago but she would never respond to me so I let it go. Now I found out one of my cousins on my moms side is pretty close to her and her family and he wants me to reach out to her again. I want to but I feel like she isn't interested.

I thought the same thing about one of my cousins. I found her on MySpace and gave her mine and my sister's number. She called ny sister but not me. So I let it go too. But later I found out she was going through a lot, abusive relationships etc. A few years later we all got reunited and it wasnt that she wasn't interested, just life.
If I were u I would see how it goes. Sisters are important of course.. I would try to reach out once more but maybe in a family hang out type thing. You and your cousins can invite her out to dinner to catch up and if she doesn't respond....you tried

God is too good to me y'all. I had been having a lot of worries, personal life, job, everything. But seriously I had to let it go and pray that what needs to happen happens swiftly! And it did. My mind is clearer than it ever has and I might have a night job! I talked to the manager at a pool hall near me and she's going to be calling me tonight! And my friend got hired right off the bat and she needs a job more than me! Thank ya!

This last episode of Scandal I shouldn't have watched because it broke me when certain parts of it hit close to home. I messed up and it hurts more because he won't answer my calls or msgs.

Racist Super Bowl Ad: Jamaica Embraces Controversial Volkswagen Commercial

My main question that I would pose to the advertisers behind this commercial is why didn't you just use actual Jamaicans? I'm not really getting their "artistry" here. I highly doubt that the actors in that video were Jamaican nationals. They could have been but I highly doubt it. To me, when I see non-Jamaicans speaking patois it reminds me of how Black people need to alter their image (to appear less offensive or threatening) to fit in the corporate world. It reminds me of how certain images of Black people are more acceptable than others. It also reminds me of how Black people get skipped over for certain roles in movies/tv shows or positions in the workforce just because it's "more appealing" to be anything other than black. The only Black person in the commercial- you could barely see their face. And finally, it reminds me of how many aspects of Black culture has been appropriated and commodified, and in some cases diluted to appease the masses.

I don't think they meant any harm and I don't think it makes Jamaicans look bad or anything (kudos to them for that, I guess), but this to me is just another example of a racial microaggression and even more so another missed opportunity for a black actor.

I really tried to look at this from an untainted perspective, because I didn't see the commercial before seeing the responses and the media's spin on it. But that's how I feel about it.

what always upsets me with black history month is teachers always tended to focus on the same people, year in and year out. I love mlk, harriet tubman, rosa parks and george washington carver, but come on! black people have made other contributions to this country and the world. how about open heart surgery, the refrigorator, the traffic light, how about the american man who acted as a one man air force in defense of ethiopia during ww2. I should know these peoples names but I dont because I wasnt taught, I just heard about them in passing on the history channel. and thats a damn shame.

blue cheese and craisans mixed together are the best snack food ever to a pregnant chick, yum

and speaking of, im now 38 weeks. this girl is crushing my pelvis. ouch, every single movement hurts, I look about 90 years old when I try to walk.

im so ready for this to be over, im eyeing a pair of scissors. but I know in my head a diy c section probably aint a good idea. I no longer remember what it feels like to not be in constant cramps with nausea, it sounds like a beautiful dream. come on kid, mommy is sooooooo over this.

but not tommorrow. mommys ravens are playing in the superbowl. trust me, kid. not in your best intrests to make mommy miss the superbowl.

but on the bright side I know exactly how to ward off teenage pregnancy in my kid. tell her all about this pregnancy. when im done the kid'll be a virgin till shes 30. hell if I had known all this crap was even possible id STILL be a virgin, no one ever told me anything but you feel queasy for a week and your ankles swell up. I mean way to downplay it, world.
