I have been practicing a conditioner free regimen and my hair has been doing fine. My situation may be different for a few reasons:
1. I wear my hair in two strand twists 100% of the time because I got tired of detangling my hair.
2. I shampoo and do a rinse with apple cider vinegar 2x week.
3. I do water rinses very often, maybe everyday or every other day.
I used to prepoo, shampoo, condition, ACV rinse then moisturize, but I wanted to see if I could make things even simpler. I had been studying Nonie's regimen on Long Hair Care Forum for a while and decided to modify it slighly. She baggies daily (I think), but baggying doesn't work for me.
I am sure that my hair would be drier than a desert if I wasn't washing/rinsing it more often, so maybe that's the case with your friend? I do think that she should definitely try out conditioning just because it made a real difference for me when I had no idea how to handle my hair. As the previous poster said, some conditioning should help her hair recover from its current state.
