Can someone please tell me my hair type. I have no idea where I fall and have searched the internet for hours. The back is when I wear it in a puff. If I brush the back it looks like the front.

I'm pretty sure I'm a 4a for the most part. Right?

My hair as has come a long way

Hair in the Half-light (a poem)

In the darkness of the
night, or a poorly lit room,
Hair type is highly uncertain.

Darkened rooms
create pixellation:
photographic
aberrations so that
Hair type is highly uncertain.

Or ..

Photos of a
corner of your head
showing threadbare
"heat trained" strands;
blurry snap-shots
taken in the
half-light, or when curls are
dripping wet, regretfully
means
Hair type is highly uncertain.

Show us the natural
beauty
of your virgin
curls bathed in
ambiant light and
stop your games.

THEN
Your hair type will still be uncertain,
but maybe a little less so.
Andre's typing system will never be science
so ask the question strictly
for fun.

I always thought my hair was mostly 4b with 4a but depending on what I put in my hair it changes slightly. I usually just say I'm in the 4 range but still a little confused.

This is my hair while shampooing

This is after washing shampoo

This is it semi dry

I'm very confused as to whether I should call my hair 4a or 4b.

I washed my hair today and studied it carefully after shampooing, conditioning, rinsing, and towel-drying. Let me start off by saying I have two different hair types.

The majority of my hair has extremely tiny curls/kinks (I don't know what to call them). Some are S-shaped, some are zig-zag, and all are about the size of a small sewing needle. That's what mainly confuses me. They're just so TINY. And they have a spongy texture. Am I still considered to have a curl pattern even though the curls are so small? I was practically amazed as I picked through them. I took a pic to post on here but the curls are so small that they don't come out clearly.

The roots of my hair are a different texture from the rest of my hair. They are looser, pencil-sized, S-shaped curls. Since the curls growing out the top of my head are much bigger than the rest, of course they are more defined. They are also softer and do not shrink up as much as the rest of my hair does. I'm so confused!

Both textures of my hair curl very easy, which is surprising because if you saw my hair after I wash it you probably would think nothing could be done to it. But it's very easy for my hair to imitate large, S-shaped curls that are soft and bouncy and well-defined. All you have to do is put any kind of hair product on it and it will immediately clump to form a large curl. Help!
Hair type: 4b with 3c on top
High density, medium porosity, thick with medium width strands, back grows faster than front

Length: APL | BSL | MBL | WL
If you can see curls you have a curl texture.

You have not said whether your curls clump.
i love how 3C hair grows out and down. i have 4A and i wish i had big hair. is there anyway to achieve this? when i do twist outs my hair looks so short and not full like a 3C. i've 2 yrs natural by the way
anyone?

If you want your hair to go downwards then gel or a curl creme may help it.

If you want your hair to be big then you can't use a gel or creme. You need to try and fluff your hair out - however it doesn't work for most low density curlies.
Korkscrew and yesmam like this.

3C/4A, fine texture, low-medium density, and low porosity?
CG since November 2013.

Pre-Poo: Coconut Oil overnight, or a greek yogurt mixture
Shampoo: Curls Cleanser and/or clarifier
Conditioner: trying out different Suave Naturals conditioners and GVP's leave-in conditioner at the moment
Styler: iagirl's super smooth flax curl cream. <3
PT: iagirl's gelatin treatment 3-4 times a month
DT: conditioner or yogurt base with honey and oil if the conditioner has none.
I think im a mix of 3c4a

My 4A curls look a lot smaller in circumference than yours which is why I thought 3C only. I have a lot of curls that are about the size of the springs that you see inside of ink pens for instance. These curls also make my hair look uneven at times bc they shrink up so much more than my 3C areas- whereas your curls look more uniform in shrinkage here.

I see what you're saying. It definitely looks like your nape is 4A. I'm the complete opposite- my nape is more 3C so it tends to look funky sometimes as my hair gets longer. Like I have a "shelf" or that I didn't cut my hair right into layers.

I love the variety that is curly hair!
