How to keep hair from drying out

I've been natural for about two and a half years now and I still cannot figure out what to use to keep my hair from drying out throughout the day. It's starts out looking really nice and curly and moisturized but by noon (I am at work by 4am) it looks like straight naps! I've been using cantu shea butter, Eco sytler, and elastacare. And when I twist it I briefly used the rasta twist gel but stopped, so now I'm using the organics. It's really frustrating bc after all this time I thought I would have it figured out. I thought I was washing my hair too much (I started twice a week because of heavy exercising now I do once a week even when I do exercise). I am contemplating going to target to get the Miss Jessies products but I don't know if I should switch I've been using my current products about 6 months even though its not the best results. Any advice or help would be great!

Sounds like to me you need a heavier cream with alot of moisture! I am the same way with my hair! If you like oils try vegetable glycerin and water mixed in a bottle! Simple but works! Eco styler dries my hair....so I use it sparingly. I also just picked up Naturalista juicy leave in conditioner! Love it! My hair is moisturized for days! I was using cantu when I started my natural journey as well but moved to Shea moisture products because of the way cantu left my hair (dry and tangled). Good luck to you!

Have you tried a curl activator gel? I love Long Aid. I was layering it with a bunch of oil and lotion. Now I use it alone and it is just love all over again. Just use a light hand or you'll be wet and sticky.

I've used curl activator and it dries my hair out quicker. I recently bought the I an natural cowash..which sucked horribly ill just Aussie and some oil and its been doing okay as long as my hair is twisted. When I wear it out it dries super fast still. And its getting worrisome

I know there are some activators that dry my hair out too. Like Worlds of Curls. It most certainly is NOT! LoL! I can only use Long Aid or (From history.) Carefree Curl.

But not everything works for everyone. Aussie is pretty much universal, though!

World of curls & proclaim dries my hair out like no mans business! I've definitely learned that not all activators are equal!
Also I find layering castor oil on top of the gel activator traps the moisture on the hair.

Your hair is drying out because you are not putting a lot of moisture into it.

You should try to use a heavier cream that has glycerine (or other humectant). Sounds like your hair might be normal-porous. I would suggest moisturizing on damp or dry hair and then sealing with a medium to heavy oil.

MJs will just dry your hair out MORE. Don't do it.

I've tried the oil and adding moisture repeatedly during the day. I feel like I'm adding to much product when it comes to.moisturizing but I guess not with it drying out. What products are good for moisture?

I've tried all the products you use except for elastacare and they dried my hair out. Now what works for me and should work for you also is water mixed with glycerin. Worked wonders For my hair. Also to twist I use the water glycerin spritz to dampen hair, and twist with apricot oil, kinky curly knot today, and Shea butter. Hair stays soft and moisturizer for about 3 days with this regimen with out my adding products just spritz with plain water in the morning. You should try it. It works for others I told it to. Good luck !
