Default If you don't use gel...

what are you guys using these days? I don't have the patience to sit with a dryer for 2 hours anymore, so I wanna try something that is lighter than a gel, but still has hold. I know some people only use condish, but I need something with hold. What do you all recommend (sans glycerin, if possible ?

TIA

Tresemme Naturals Nourishing Moisture Condish, Alba Botanica Soft Hold Styling Creme & Curl Junkie Coffee Coco Cream Lite (glycerin at the bottom of the list on ingredients on these two), Komaza Califia Pudding, Aubrey Organics Mandarin Magic Moisturizing Jelly (Not really a gel but has light hold on my hair & I use this on top of condish),. I use other things too but they have glycerin in them. hth

ditto to the tres naturals, putting a little castor oil in dripping wet hair has made my hair look like gels in it when its just the castor oil. if its not super wet though its too heavy and greasy. so drenched hair.

I feel you with this but I make my own gel/condish concoction so you get the hold of the gel without the messiness.

+1 on the CJ Coco creme lite. It's wonderful.

A hair milk, Conditioner or shea butter mix on wet hair can provide some hold.

Yeah.. a small bit of castor oil (just the Organic kind..not the Jamaican Black) really works well for me. I like to cut it with EVOO though. Mix it with some gel and or gel and conditioner.. still have the hold but no crispy or crunchy feeling. Leaves a light and fluffy feeling once dry..not oily.

Why don't you diffuse instead of the hooded dryer.

ORS Elasticitea.. it's got very light hold like a liquid gel, but they call it a "leave in conditioner".

I do diffuse lol...it takes at least two hours with a diffuser. If I do it non-stop, without taking a break to let my hand rest, I can probably get it done in an hour and 1/2.

Thanks for all the recs, folks. I have experimented with castor oil and jojoba so far. Idk if my hair wasn't wet enough, but my hair won't absorb the oil. When I touch my hair, I get oil on my hands. I have had trouble absorbing oil in the past so Idk if it will ever work well for me, but I'll keep playing with it. I got pretty good results using CIAB alone, but it still takes awhile to dry- just not 2 hours. I will try some of these ideas and report back again

KBB's hair milk is now called sweet ambrosia. They still make it, just changed the name of it.

I havent used gel in a minute. Right now it is just leave in and sealing with castor oil with with a little grapeseed oil. The gso makes the castor easier to smooth since it is so thick. I use shea butter on the ends only.

How do these products compare? I love the Alba but have been hearing about the CJ CCCL. Does it hold as well as Alba? And is the scent strong or mild?

On my hair the hold is about the same. To me it makes your hair shinier. It is very conditioning like all Curl Junkie products so you don't need a leave-in under it...gives great curl definition/really makes them clump & bouncey....kills frizz... moisturizing & makes a great refresher for 2nd day hair...does not weigh hair down & is easy to distribute through the hair. It has a light pina-colada scent...does not smell like coffee or cocoa at all. It is expensive so I think Alba is a better deal.

Thanks, Twirlygranny! I checked and even on Amazon the CJ is $20. You do get 8 ounces, but that's still pricier than 2 4 oz. tubes of Alba. I'm sure I'll give in and try the CJ at some point though because it sounds really good.

I bought this based on your recommendation! I love it!

It leaves my hair soft and moisturised for a couple of days.

Thanks
