Right now, I don't have a huge preference for one or the other.
I found that my hair wasn't as defined with regular two strand twistouts, so I don't do them as often these days. When I do twistouts now, they're either three strand twistouts or flat twistouts. The only time I two strand twist my hair and then wear it out, it's for a chunky fro, for those times when I don't care about curl definition.
Braidouts give a lot of definition (for me anyway) but they tend to take more time to put in and take down. I hadn't been doing them for the longest, but over the last couple of months, I've been doing them a lot. I've discovered that the less product you use, the faster your hair will dry, so lately, I've only been using two products for the styles-CJ Coco Creme or CJ Honey Butta and Ecostyler or Taliah Wajid Lock It Up.

TEAM BRAIDOUT!
I get the best definition, in my opinion, and my style holds up through the whole week and beyond!
Right now, I'm using shea moisture's curl and style milk as a leave in and my flax seed gel + curls goddess glaze combo to style

While my roots look quite puffy, I prefer twist-outs because of the shorter drying time and the pattern.
I really try to focus on stretching my hair during my wash routine, so once I have shampooed and deep conditioned, I detangle and set the hair in twists...then I rinse the deep conditioner (while in twists) and scrunch in whatever moisturizer/sealant I am using (while in twists with pretty wet hair - I tend to believe the water is helping to distribute the cream/lotion/whatever I am using, )...
I find that as long as you let your hair completely dry and the product of choice is not crazy glycerin loaded you can maintain that twist-out.

I'm team it don't even matter, my braiding skills are so bad the outcome looks the same. Braids seem to dry faster than twists and I think I have less tangles with braidouts but the style lasts about the same amount of time.

Team twist-out over here. I love the pattern that results from a braid-out, but braids take too damn long to put in and take out
For me, here's a comparison I recently did of a twist-out and a braid-out puff. Used Blended Beauty Happy Nappy Styles for both I believe.
Oh and mocha_mom, your braid-out is the bomb DIGGITY!

I'm team twist out. I've mastered it because I do them the most. But I do like braid outs as well. I don't do them often because they're a little tricky. Sometimes they turn out amazing and other times it's a major fail.

I get the best definition from 3-strand twist outs, then flat twist out, then braid outs, then twists. I also get more volume from 3-strand twist outs than any other--I don't have to separate each segment, just fluff and go! I don't notice any moisture differences.

Braidout is my fav because of the elongation but I cant do it in freshly washed hair because it wont dry well. When i twist after washing my hair is shorter looking and super defined. Some of my friends like my twist outs better.

I definitely prefer braid-outs. Even though it takes a great deal of time, considering my hair is both dense and coarse (and for the most part kinky), braiding my hair takes less time than twists and I get more elongation. I feel that with twist-outs it's more manipulation as I'd have to re-twist again and again in sections. Braid-outs also last me a great deal and I can usually get good results without too much product, so I love that!

I tend to do a combo of both. When my braid out has gone as long as it can, I then twist my hair. It stretches the style out for a bit.

I love both but I do braid-outs more because they are faster for me. They also last longer than twist-outs as well, and they seem to stretch my hair more than the two-strand twist-outs.
It also depends on the type of look/style that I am trying to achieve. to me, braid-outs are fun, funky and edgy while twist-outs give me a softer, more feminine look.
Pic 1- Braid-Out (from three-strand plaits or conrows- can't remember now)
Pic 2- Twist-Out (from flat twists)

Once my hair got about shoulder length, braids (individual) on wet hair works the best for me if I want elongation. I'll do twists on blown out hair or to refresh an old braid out. It also depends on what look I want as well. Braid outs give me the most definition (smaller crinkles) twist outs give me a more wavy look. Like LadyV said I have to use less products on braids because it takes longer to dry. But by the end of the week braid/twist outs look just about the same.

At first I would only do braid outs because they stretched my hair more. Now I've been doing twist-outs because I blow-dry my hair prior to twisting. I like the look that twist outs give on blow dried hair.

Braid-outs
I prefer braid-outs because of how they look. Twist outs aren't that different from how a WnG looks on my hair and braid-outs stretch the hair just a bit more and give a different pattern (at least for the first couple of days). I figure if I'm going to take the extra time to do a wet-set style, it needs to look like I did something, lol.
Another thing--wet twists on my hair look a hot mess b/c of the shrinkage and the mixed curl size in various sections. So if I twist my hair, I usually blow out the hair and do smaller twists to wear them as the style. I almost never wear the resulting twist-out (my hair is usually pretty dirty by that point anyway, so it'd be kinda gross to do that ).
Also I prefer to do braid-outs because I hated them with a fiery vengeance back when I had relaxed hair, so the challenge of mastering them makes me like them now.

This is how my hair is with wet twists. Since the twists aren't tight like the plaits my hair curls up withing the twists so it just ends up looking like a WnG to me. Plus I don't like the shrinkage. I need to practice my flat twisting skills because I'm thinking I can get my dry twist out look on wet hair this way. I'm too lazy and don't want to be bothered with practicing though.
