I'm not very high maintenance and I don't like to spend on hair and makeup and the like. It seems like the more I spend on my hair, the worse it looks. At the same time, I'm obsessed with finding stuff, something, anything that works for my hair and I may try some of the products I've seen advertised on here and other sites - Mixed Chicks, uhhh I can't think of any more now. I think my mind automatically clicks off when I see some of the price tags!

I'm not high maintenance in terms of spending money. Nothing I buy for my hair and skin is over $10 however I'm anal about my hair looking nice. Even when I'm just around the house it has to look perfect.
Well let me retract that, when it comes to technology it has to be high end and I'm so use to my dad buying me expensive watches I don't think I could ever wear a cheap one.

All my Ayurvedia stuff, from my henna to my triphala. I hide it! I was boiling the kettle to soak some hibiscus petals for my henna the other day and my flatmate asked me if I was making a cup of tea. Me: 'no'....silence... Then we both laughed and I just said it's complicated to explain. dunno why I didn't just say yes!

My "Supplements & Superfoods & Exercise"....and I don't care about the smirks, looks and sideways remarks....at least I'm not taking handfuls of medicine everyday and nobody believes my age. It's funny though how people will ask you "what do you use?" ...on the sly, when know one's watching. lol

I was bout to say I have nothing side eye worthy... Then I looked at my iPhone 4s. >_< And my $800 TV. >_< !! So those things.
But personally I don't spend a lot on myself far as hair products, $6 for like 40oz of shampoo, $5 conditioner, $5 gel. $6 coconut oil. Very low price.
But I think my inner bougie will emerge when I get PREGNANT. Oh the side eyes I will get. LoL! (Doulas, midwives, organic this, water birth that.)

Well bougie doesn't really mean expensive, imo - I think that some people might look at your coconut oil and wonder why you have that!!

LoL! You might be right. I don't use "grease" like most of my- shoot ALL of my family!! I'm using my natural non petrolatum products and "sealing" with cooking coconut oil.
And nearly ALL our natural talk sounds like the equivalent to the most bougie of society speak.
"I only use natural oils on MY hair.."
"Petroleum?! Ummm. NOOO!"
"Are these cones water soluble?"
I can see how that would get some serious side eyes.

Like another poster wrote, just about all my hair care products are bougie. Especially Curl Junkie, Kinky Curly and my shampoo bars.
Outside of hair, my shoe tastes and collection regularly get me the raised eyebrow. I have bunions. Can't settle for the okey doke.

dayum girl your list is longer than mine!!! Ok have you seen any benefits from the glucosamine, chondrotin,MSM as far as joint health? I have a bum knee and with me back in the gym, it can flair up a bit espically if I'm doing a lot of squats or lunges. I'm been thinking about adding that to my daily vitamins. thoughts?

I agree. I always get the "Oh excuuuuse me, you don't use regular 'black' hair products" look from people. And my nail polish collect always get the side eye. Me cutting pork and beef (and more recently talk of cutting out meat all together) was seen as mostly weird rather than bougie.
