HELP Breakage

I have a lot of breakage all over!!! I don't usually see pieces of hair but I know it is breaking because when I do my 2-stranded twists I have pieces of hair sticking out the length of the twist (hopefully that is clear).

My hair is naturally dry but I have been doing better with adding moisture since September. The breakage continued so I have been adding protein treatments (about every 3 weeks) for the past 2 months using ION reconstructor. I don't think it has improved very much. I am not sure what to do next. Please help!!

Currently I co-wash 1-2 times a week. I usually twist my hair on Sunday and wear it for a few days and then wear the twist out for a few. Sometimes I wear a puff but I stretch out the bands so they are not tight. Here is what I use...

Co-Wash - used to use old formula Triple Nutrition now trying Tresseme naturals
Shampoo - Shea Moisture (pink) 1-2 times/month
RO Condish - AOHSR, Jason Aloe Vera
LI Condish - KCKT +Jojoba, olive, and castor oils
Butter- Nourish and Shine
Gel - Olive oil Ecostyler (not sure my hair likes this)

If I do a wash n go I use KCKT w. oils and KCCC.

Please Help!!! Sorry for length,

I could be wrong, but I don't think you should do protein treatments that often. Like once every other month maybe, but not every few weeks. Also, since you use other products with protein in them on your hair do you think it might be an overload? I really have no clue I'm just shooting things out.

Breakage

I used to have really bad breakage from straightening by hair too much, my hair was also very dry so i used profectiv mega growth, I saw a lot of improvement, less hair on the comb too. I stopped using straighteners, blow dryers, my hair is now in braids. i hopes this helps.

Thanks for the comments. I guess I thought/think I was really focused on moisture for several months although I used a couple of products with protein periodically (the Ecostyler more than Shea Moisture) so I thought I should focus on adding protein. I agree that I am doing treatments pretty frequently so maybe I should slow down on that and observe my hair a bit before doing another one. I guess I am a little eager for this to end.

I will check out Profective mega growth as a possibility for my next treatment. Thanks for the suggestion

Well i can tell you my routine..and ive been doing it for about 6months now and i see dramtically less breakage..even when i blow dry it straight
my hair is shoulder length and is 4b

basically i do the coconut milk/lime relaxer (i substitute coconut milk for coconut cream) and i mix that together and put on my hair before i wash. I leave it on for about 1 hour, then i wash/shampoo it out(dont matter what shampoo you use)..after that i use the giovanni smooth as silk conditioner and i braid my hair while conditioner is in my hair. I leave conditioner on for about 1hour and then wash it out(with the braids still intact)

**Just so you know the coconut milk/lime relaxer is really just a strong conditioner** but it can make your hair appear to have looser curls(like going from 4b to 4a)

Anyway after i wash the conditioner(with braids still intact) i style my hair any way i want..either i braid or twist my hair..OR if i plan on blow drying(because of the heat) i add on the Kinky Curly Leave In conditioner to each braid.
I unbraid and blow dry straight(using fine tooth comb)

Anyway throughout all of this..i BARELY have hair loss!! Even through the blow drying and combing

Now i might advise you depending on how damaged your hair is..you may want to leave the coconut milk/lime relaxer on longer than 1hr.

Anyway when i wear my twist or braids..if i want more moisture in my hair..i just wet my hair with water(natural moisture) and i seal it with coconut oil..(this REALLY moisturizes my hair)..but i stopped using coconut oil because it gave me facial breakouts..
but others use coconut oil to seal the moisture in for their hair and it works great for them.

I have VERy sensitive skin..so it might work for most people. If you have very sensitive skin(that is also oily) i wouldnt use the coconut oil..but it may work for you.

Where do U focus your moisture? You might want have a scalp routine as well as a hair shaft and hair-ends routine.

Based on all the products you listed you might be over manipulating. Maybe increase your cowashes and sometimes just pile in more moisturizing conditioner, style, and let dry. Ease off the products for the summer. That might help.

What you describe is not a sign of excess breakage--it's a normal part of having natural hair. With that said, your regimen seems fine. I'd lay off the protein treatment (or at least lessen the frequency)
because that may lead to excess dryness/breakage.

It's the original formula. I stocked up on it when I heard of the ingredient change. My bottles are just like this.

I can't find any of the old formula in my area. They are worth it to me. I used to use the one you have as a leave in and I didn't have to use a lot.
