what legit reason could she have for not using a preservative? That's a health issue....rosemary and vitamin e (and other antioxidants) are not replacements for preservatives.

uhoh! Please check board rules for more information about posting on behalf of your brand. It is not allowed.

To my knowledge, Leucidal liquid is not effective against yeast and mold in a w/o cosmetics---tests were done only with bacteria and fungi...I could be wrong though.

Awww man she said she does use a preservative (CN pointed out an issue with its effectiveness though)...overall it was a pretty good rebuttal to all of the complaints and concerns that have been raised. She agreed LOVE is not enough, she said she got a bad batch of shea butter back in Feb and has since switch vendors. She seems like she wants to do right by her customers.

Naw...I get no indication that she's a shady person. I believe she's of good character. Now, I don't know if my cream is part of the bad shea butter batch. But so far, my cream shows no evidence of mold. I'm using it as a moisturizer, and I like it a lot.

Yea, her response was good. If her shea butter was contaminated, she should really recall ALL the creams that she made with that batch of Shea, rather than wait for people to report that it went bad. If the shea was contaminated, the cream IS contaminated. All the creams are compromised and should not be used. I hope she has a QC system in place.

That is true. I've yet to see anybody do that, because it's costly. The big dawgs can do that..and their quality control is tighter.

That's why people should use bar coding, to keep track of what jars come from what product batches. (I'm sleepy, ya'll so forgive me if I'm not making sense...). That way, if you ever get a report of a faulty jar/bottle of product, you can know exactly when it was made, and how much you made, and wha ingredients were used to make it.

I'm going to bed. Goodnite...

That's the cost of doing business. If something like with one of your components happens, no matter how small you are, you need to be ready to recall that stuff. Because someone could sue you and then you may end up losing a lot more.

Oh, I know. But I also know most folks aren't willing to pay the cost...because they're runnin' on a string, from the gitgo.

That's why you need to run the tightest ship, when you're a small, indie company - because your "mistakes" will cost you more all around. If your quality control isn't tight, you're really in trouble, cuz you don't know what you need to "recall".

I tried it last night on dry hair spritz'd with a little aloe vera to moisten it up.

I'm not sure its going to be a keeper for me. My hair has a problem absorbing heavily laden shea butter products sometimes.

Its very creamy and I love the smell but my hair looks a little dull today. When the twists set last night at first they seemed sheeny but today my hair looks sorta ashy.

Im going to try it on freshly washed hair on the weekend and see how it goes

I think the owners comment wwas helpful and clarified a lot for some people on here. This is the only forum that won't allow a business owner to explain or clarify a situation that I've been a member of. What other way can she respond directly to a customers complaint? A lot of people use forums as an outlet to complain but never voice their concerns to the company.....I can understand businesses trying to advertise but its worth noting that a lot of times when they're is suspicion on the forums about a product changing/ingredients etc.....when the company is able to respond people have a better understanding of the brand and knows what is going on..

I'm disappointed, it smells great but my last few uses it made my hair crunchy due to the coconut. Oh well, live and learn. She definitely needs to invest in small sample jars because people only need a little.

The gum is there for hold, but there may be little hold because of all the moisture from the honequat and the emulsifier.

Hmmm, I would try this, but the no preservative makes me stop
When I saw the ingredients list, the lack of preservative made me put the bank card back where it belong. I am not taking any risk with home made products with no proper preservative.
