Default Help: Formal natural styles or straightening

I have to attend an engagement party next weekend & my hair has been acting kind of off these days (dry, less defined, awkward length). I am going to a humid climate so testing a new style may not work well & money is tight & products are low.

I can't find a natural formal style I like. Any suggestions? A roller set maybe? I have a beautiful hair comb & earings I want to incorporate to a curly updo Help: Formal natural styles or straightening-uploadfromtaptalk1340627170062.jpg
Or
Should I cut my losses & flat iron for this event? (its been 6 months since I last flat ironed).

Everything in moderation?

Have you searched only websites or salon pages? Do you plan on doing your own hair or maybe going to a natural hair salon?

I agree with Cerendipity. Straightened hair in a humid climate is usually not a good idea.

I looked at your blog, and your hair looks to be about collar bone length when stretched. That's hardly an awkward length, to me! Plus, the humidity may be good for your dry hair

I simple puff is super versatile, in my opinion, and is easy to achieve, especially on an old (or new!) twist out. But, if you want something a bit more interesting, have a look at these suggestions. (Feel free to blow out your hair to achieve more length before doing any of these)

Natural Hair Protective Style Updo Tutorial - YouTube (to be done on twists; I wore a style very similar to this to school almost every day last semester. The only difference was I took the top layer of twists and put them into a ponytail, then took each side from the bottom layer over the ponytail to form the intricate, pinned-up look. I got so many compliments everyday and it looks very elegant. Plus, it takes only five minutes to do!)

HTH!

Thanks ladies. I have no salon funds for this event. I have been searching you tube for ideas & I hope I stumble upon something unique.

My last straightening session was in Jan.
I used the CD chocolat collection & it lasted five days & 2 insanity workouts. I think I can make it through the humidity flat ironed...I think. To be sure I won't style it until the day of.

Maybe a Bantu knot out or a fresh roller set pinned up would work with my length. I will try a test run of each this week.
