So I finally took my braids out and did a twist out. I didn't keep the twists in long (a day or so) which I think resulted in my hair fuzzing up in the third pic? Or maybe thats how my hair will always react (I think I'm a 4b) so I get these super tiny pen spring coils.






I can't call it a fail but every day is a patience/learning experience. Does any one else notice their hair puffing up right after taking out their twists even when their hair is dry? Suggestions?

Wash-- Trader Joes Tea Tree Tingle Conditioner

Moisturize-- Jojoba Oil, Shea Moisture organic Yucca &
Aloe Thickening Growth Milk

Curl Definition-- Cantu Shea Butter hair dressing pomade

I also do my twists on dry hair because I know it takes forever for my hair dry especially when I add products to it while wet.

To answer your question, your hair probably won't always react in the same way. If you change the size of the twists, or use a product with strong hold, or leave the twists in for longer, or do it on wet or damp hair, or even attempt a braid out or three strand twist out, your results will vary accordingly.

I also don't do twist outs in the summer unless I have left the twists in for two or more days because of the humidity...it will frizz out my work. But if you live in a dry climate this may not apply.

Thanks so much for the advice! I live in an area where it is humid and a heat wave has just passed. I guess that answered my question about the fuzzing. I also will try to keep my hands out of my hair and leave my twists in longer. I get good results in just 2 days of having them in but it's probably healthier for my hair to do less manipulation.

I want to wear my twists out but my hair is in that awkward stage where its 2 inches from being APL and whenever I do my twists I find it hard to style them as is, like pinning them up or putting it in a short ponytail. The thicker the hair grows I guess it'll be better and allow for more twists

Yeah, I was in that awkward phase this past winter, so I know how you feel. It does get hard styling twists in an updo or ponytail or something at that length, especially if your hair is on the thinner side as mine is...it can look bad. I mostly wore braided out buns during that time period, but it was winter, so they had better hold. Hopefully you find a solution.

I usually want my twistouts to last 2 weeks so I only twist on wet hair (besides that, my hair really isn't manageable when it is dry). I have to use a product with hold in order for them to stay.

I couldn't see the pics but I have found that smaller twists result in better results also.

I've never done a twist out, but I thought I'd do one tonight/tomorrow... Only, after reading this about humidity, I might not! My hair is pretty fuzzy all the time... which is why I never wear it loose. Hmm...

Sadly I've been wearing wigs until I get my hair to a comfortable length. It allows me to experiment with twist outs, wash n go's, bantu knots, etc. I have been on the look out for thinning edges because someone told me wearing wigs repeatedly thins your edges especially your temples. I can never get my roots to be defined either. They always come out puffy >__<

I've also become paranoid over shedding vs. breakage. I get a tiny amount maybe a little bigger than a dime sized ball of hair that comes out with every twist out I do when I comb through my hair (while wet). I know it seems as if I have a million concerns but I'm still working on getting to a comfortable place caring for my hair so sorry if I'm annoying anyone
