Need Advice/ Wasn't Sure where to post

Hiya. I've been doing a lot of research on natural hair. My mother thinks I'm obsessed with this site. I started out thinking I was a 3c. Turns out I'm a 4b. It leads me to some questions.

1) Can 4bs really do wash and go's? We don't really have curls. I don't anyway. When wet, my hair sort of sticks straight up in a zig zag pattern.

2) I really want to do fingercoils. Since my 4b hair is prone to stick up, will I need a thicker product to get it to lay down and twist?

3) My hair is also very soft and weak. Should I take the extreme route and do the 2 step Aphogee treatment?

Thoughts from more experienced (preferably 4's) would be preferred. And please don't say something generic like "It's your hair. Do whatever you want. I'm looking for advice and experience"

Thanks

In my opinion, anyone can do a wash and go. I think the real question is what you are expecting from the wash and go. Many 4B's will not get the loosely defined curl formation that you see advertised with wash and go styles. With that being said, even though you've typed your hair each 4B is different. Your hair may not react the same way mine does. You may get satisfactory curl formation or not. Also, I find that 4B's may need a heavy gel if you are looking for curls (if it curls up at all). I find with my hair that ecostyler gel works where all else has failed. Hope that helps.

Again it is going to depend on your hair, but it does sound like you will need a heavier product. You're going to have to experiment.

I am hesitant to recommend that without seeing your hair. Aphogee tends to be too strong for natural hair. You are fully natural right? I did an Aphogee treatment on my natural hair before and it wreaked havoc. Is your hair super stretchy when wet, almost as if it will break? Anyhow, if you must try a protein treatment, I'd start out with a lighter one first, such as Aubrey Organics GPB.

Hope this helps.

Hi Zikomo7, I'm not a 4 but I do have something to contribute (hopefully). A really good protein treatment that's gentler than Aphogee is Curl Junkie Repair Me. It's moisturizing as well as protein. You can check out the reviews on it - since your new to the site, if you have trouble finding it, post back and I'll give details.

Many of us are obsessed with the site. You're among friends. Welcome!

To be honest wash N gos are overated. Some naturals have been for years and prefer not to do that syle for various reasons . Washngo look best on 3 type hair some 4a can get a good one too but personally i dont like my hair shrunken so i stay away from washngo also i hate fairy knots and thats what happens when i do wash n go so i opt out but let me tell u kinky hair is the perfect texture for twist/braid outs. It holds the definition well. Dont look at what u wont be able to do now that u are 4b start looking into the endless benefits there are to having 4b hair. Good luck!
