Simple Box Braid Question

I just got box braids for the first time, and I'm so excited! However I find that using a spray moisturizer to hydrate my braids, for me, is tedious, so what I've been doing is dampening the portion of my braids that contain my actual hair, sectioning my braids into 4 sections, and applying Alba Botanical leave-in conditioner (it's a creamy leave-in)with damp hands onto the dampened sections and squeezing the braids with my hands so the conditioner can penetrate. Lastly I coat the sections with coconut oil. Is this an effective method? Your opinions are highly appreciated.

Yes it is, but it seems more tedious than simply just spraying your braids???

Be careful with the creamy conditioner as it may cause your braids to slip quicker
