A couple TBS in about 1 cup water with maybe 2 TBS shampoo...the first time

The second time I just dumped a bunch of baking soda in some water and added a few squirts of shampoo

holy crap Phoenix. Geez. Where you trying to rip your hair out your head?! good god. that is doing waaaayyy too much.

Baking soda can be used in moderation without any ill effects. I haven't had a problem but I only use 1 tbsp in 1 litre of water. No shampoo. I don't use baking soda much anymore. I do use it to clean my hair and scalp when I'm in braids/twists with extensions.

Baking soda is about the same pH as soap.

I've been following this thread since you first started but held back on giving advice since i agreed with most of the other posters.

Has the advice helped? Is your hair retaining moisture?

Yes, I think so! Thanks for asking! I've been spraying my hair with aloe vera juice and my hair seems to stay moisturized. Obviously, cutting out the baking soda and over-clarifying is helping. But I think it'll take a little longer for me to really see how my hair is improving.

I got my hair cut on Saturday by Cyrel at Liquid Salon. Despite how raggedy I think my hair is, he seemed to think it's very strong. He thinned it so I'm still pulling furballs outta my hair. It might be a pain to grow out. We'll see... I might get it cut again actually. I had Cyrel bob it a little, asymmetrically. I didn't want to lose too much length at the time, but looking at it now it's not really the kind of cut you can do only half*ss. So I might go to another [read: cheaper] salon and have them do it right. I'd really like to get a cute bob.
