Default Favorite products for wet or dry twist outs

Hi! I'm finally at a length where I can do twist outs instead of waiting for my hair to completely dry. My hair is super thick and I live in a very humid area so the roots just won't completely air dry by the end of the day when I use gel with no heat, so now, I want to try twistouts instead of wash and gos (to avoid using heat).

I've tried a couple of products for twist outs:

1) Taliah Wajid Curly Cream on wet hair...defined but dull and sticky....on dry hair hard and dull

2) Sheamoisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie with a small amount of EcoStyler (green) on wet hair...result was defined but it didn't dry so I got major frizz.

3) Eco blue...I've only tried it once and it didn't completely dry. Now that I know it's discontinued, I just don't want to make this my go to product.

What I would like...a dry, soft, frizz-free (or low frizz) twistout. I have a maintenance plan, but I need product recs. Please help! Also, if you use shea butter (which I've used in the past, but not on short hair) and you have a recipe for a twisting cream/butter mix, please share it. Please indicate whether your recommended product works well for you on wet or damp hair.

My hair: medium/coarse, normal/low porosity, very thick, 4 to 4-1/2 inches.

Also, I have some CJ Pattern Pusha that I didn't care for (because it was so flaky for my wash and go). Has anyone tried it for twistouts? On dry hair?

Thanks.

My fav for twistouts is just leave in and oil. In humidity I like to also use flaxseed gel. Roots of nature coil cream is another winner for me.

I do all my twists on damp hair. My hair is lp and won't absorb while wet. If i retwisting I spritz with water to make my hair more pliable. HTH

I don't do dry twist outs...but my boo for twist outs is done on wet hair using CJ Curl Rehab as my leave-in, Original Moxie Shape Shifter and sealed with QB AHTB. Twist outs last a week without retwisting just pineappling nightly.

I also like to use Mozeke's Grapeseed Detangler with Original Moxie's Just Gel.

I live in southern Louisiana where the humidity rate is always higher than 90%..I tried so many of these popular natural hair products for my braid/twist outs: , and the humidity and wind here have always won.

-Ecostyler argan and olive oil:Fail. Hair would always swell up and lose complete definition due to the glycerin..in less than 1 hour after standing outside

-Taliaah Wajid Curly Cream: Fail
-Kera care Twist cream: Fail
-Spritz bottle mix, ORS Lock & Twist Gel, seal with EVOO: Fail
-Daily Moisturizer, ORS Lock & Twist Gel/Giovanni Gel, seal w/ shea butter: Fail
-Moisturizer, gel, serum, seal: Fail

Today, after 3 months of being natural, I finally found my holy grail products for twist and braid sets: Suave naturals conditioner (any type), Giovanni LA gel (which is glycerin free), then seal with shea butter/EVOO. Yep, I use straight up conditioner for my braid/twist outs on dry and wet hair. That conditioner has held my braidout in this humidity compared to any other styler. I'm sitting outside typing this right now..no loss of definition and, its really moisturized. And best of all the suave naturals conditioners are only $1.

I think the key to an ultra defined twist out is a creamy leave in/conditioner...especially if you are in a humid area. It would be best to stay away from glycerin products. I was about to give up on twist/braid outs for the whole summer..but after today I've found hope lol.
We'll see how Day 2 turns out without re-braiding/twisting .

Yeah, my hair would be cute until about an hour outside. I know of the humidity of which you speak. That's what I'm talking about. I I figured the glycerin just wasn't going to get it done. Its strange because i can use the exo for wash and gos and as long as i dry my hair i have no issues. I have some uncle funkys daughter curly magic for wngs but I haven't tried it for twistouts. I'll give it a shot and be on the look out for the Giovanni gel. CJAO is my leaves right now and that has no glycerin in it. I have some Shea butter. Ill use it after the leavein and gel.

Fingers crossed.

You're lucky. My hair laughs at flaxseed gel during summer.

I like Camille rose almond jai on my ends so I may have to buy more. I am worried about hold in humidity though.

Do you have fine hair? I noticed some reviews on the shape shifter said its not as good for the thicker strands but works well on fine hair. Y'all are gonna make me breakdown and try this rehab.

I have mostly medium with some fine hairs sprinkled in. I don't have thick strands at all though.
The Curl Rehab is the business as a leave-in. I love it under all of my stylers. I just did some twists using rehab and twisted with CJ Pattern Pusha. Drying nice so far.

Yeah, it's horrible over here lol :O. It took a long time to figure out what worked for me and how to make braid/twist outs hold especially while being outside. And I experience the same with my wash n gos with glycerin products. My wash n gos hold up pretty well with glycerin products. It's only a huge NO for my braid/twist outs. I hope you like the giovanni gel, it's pretty much all natural too.I don't really use it for my wash n goes, only for my braid/twist outs btw. Well, hope that the leave in, gel, and shea butter works for you. Good luck!

I live in south louisiana, humidity is always a factor.
But I leave my twists in for a week then wear a twist out
So I have mucho definition and hold for days and moist hair.

How did your twists turn out with the PP? I saw your reply and gave it a shot on my second go around (first time...I used Shea Butter and CJOA conditioner and then added a little UFD CM...ugh...a white mess it was indeed). This time, I used SM Curl and Style Milk, Shea Butter/Coconut Oil blend and the PP and other than trying to get it to completely dry without heat, it turned out pretty well. It's very soft and pretty defined too.

I only use a leave in conditioner and an oil. My favorites are Cantu Shea Butter Leave In Conditioner
Giovanni Direct Leave In Conditioner
Shea Moisture Curl and Style Milk
Blue Magic Argan Oil Leave In
Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine Leave In.

On wet braid outs (I mostly do braid outs instead of twist outs but I would still use the same products)

Ohm Sweet Hair Pudding - I use this without a leave-in and I use a pomade or butter on my ends. It moisturizes my hair and has a good hold but my hair stays soft. I've gotten the most definition and hold with this product out of other I have used so far. This was my #1 product...unfortunalty they haven't been selling on their website for MONTHS and when Sage got a shipment in my 16 oz jar went bad within a month!

Camille Rose Almond Jai Twisting Butter - This is sort of a replacement for Ohm. I usually use CJ Smoothing Loition underneath. This combo moisturizes my hair really well and gives it a little shine.

For the Summer:
Koils By Nature Herbal Gel with KBN Hair & Body Butter - I loved this for the summer. I keeps my hair from poofing, keeps it moisturized, and makes my hair sparkle.

Whenever I re twist I use Jane Carter's Leave-in Spray and Naturael Lyfe's whipped shea butter. My hair is super soft after.
