I live in Memphis and humidity is almost as bad as the bayou. Frizzy and poofy hair is almost a given so during certian times of the year, I have to use products that helps with this. Cones help my hair to deal with those conditions. During winter, I use conditioners with mineral oils and or petroleum. They are great for keeping your hair protected against the dry, cold air. I mostly try to use products without the alleged "bad" stuff, but to me, use what works for YOUR hair.
I'm in Memphis too and I like how big the humidity makes my hair so I purposely use humectants when it's humid

I use sulfate shampoo all the time, and I love petroleum, mineral oil and lanolin.

I didn't realize scratching your scalp was bad. I do that all the time. I often don't cover my hair when I sleep. I don't DC as often as folks recommend. I don't always wash my hair in sections, it's too long of a process.

I straighten my hair once every month or two. I use sulfates about every month. Those two are the only ones I can think of.

I'm always sharing the rules ... but some rules were made to be broken.
  • Wash hair using nails/scratching scalp - guilty!
  • Shampoo - yes, I did it!
  • Flat iron - check!
  • Blow dry/Tension method - all the little long days I wash and go!

Thinking of going sulfate & cone free again then I found this thread. Oh well.

I pull my buns too tight.
I reverted to sulfate shampoo weekly & cones darn near daily (the herbal essences honey I'm strong line is like crack).
I finger detangle from root to ends
I don't deep condition anymore unless leave in counts
I always condition my roots.
I just started blow drying for elongation. I'm sick of my 15 inches of hair hanging out around my ears. Wth.
I'm tempted to straighten my hair every day. The only thing stopping me is all the work I put into protecting my curls.

Every teardrop is a waterfall

@ss40 tell me about it....I have BSL hair that shrinks to my neck. - ____________ - lol! But I do love the versatility, in the fall though I like to have shwang and that isn't happening without heat. So I just do without it for long periods of time. I barely straighten....probably just once or twice every few months.

I used black rubber bands for the ends of my two pigtails today...my hair is straight so the braid won't hold. I use oil to get slip so it can come out easily!

Let me see.
1. I don't wash in sections. It takes me less than 3 minutes to detangle so why bother.
2. I use combs and brushes. I like them.
3. I make a home made shea butter mix with refined shea butter. I can not stand the smell of unrefined. I use light olive oils as well, don't like the smell of EVOO.
4. I shampoo every week.
5. I gel my edges and tie them down all night. I love the slicked down look.
6. I use oyin hair dew daily at night. I don't "seal" daily.. One product seems good enough for daily use most days.

I don't moisturize daily.

-I don't shampoo in sections (but I do condition/detangle in sections)
-I don't prepoo
-I don't wash and go (my hair would lol)
-I don't use gel (same as above)
-I don't leave in rinse outs/deep conditioners/anything that's not labeled as a leave-in (I feel like rinse-outs are labeled rinse-outs when manufactured for a reason)
-I only moisturize once a week
-I use a wide tooth comb AND a denman AND my fingers to detangle
-I don't henna
-I don't embrace my shrinkage and I don't care what anyone says. Lol. Twist and braid outs are my staple. Don't make no sense I babied my hair to BSB and it shrinks to my chin if I don't stretch it. :P

I use pure glycerin all year round
I use shampoo
I dont sleep with a bonnet or silk pillow case (unless I moisturize my hair at night)
The only thing I do is wash and go's, no braid outs, twist outs, protective styling.
I use silicones
I dont really care about ingredients, its all about what my hair likes and dislikes

I don't use a glycerine in my water bottle to moisturize my hair. Glycerine makes my hair hard.

I realized today that I detangle my hair root to tip. I've never had problems with breakage, so I figure it can't be too bad.

I use and love silicone products *hangs head in shame*

ETA oh and, my hair has detested every single natural product out there - even after using a clarifier...but I did try.
