FREEFORM DREADLOCKS MONTH 1 - YouTube

Ok, so I'm a guy and I've been looking at a bunch of different free-from dreadlock videos and I'd like some advice on how to get my hair like that without it progressing into actual full on dreads. I really like the way an afro looks when it starts to clump up like that and get really kinky/wild looking. It's almost like a permanent twist out kinda look. So, my question is, do you guys think there'd be a way for me to allow my hair to loc somewhat to the extent of the guy's in the video and keep it from progressing any further??? I really am not interested in actual dreads at all I just want that permanent chunky fro look.

I'm thinking I'm gonna go ahead and try it for the next few weeks either way and just see how it goes, but some input/insight would be nice. Oh, and my hair's around 3 inches all the way around. 3 1/2ish in some spots.

At that point I'm not really too crazy about his hair. I really want my hair to remain a fro and just chunky like the way it is in that first month video of his. So yea.......I just thought I should add that.

Chicago Kinks

You can do a braid/twist out with larger chunky pieces so you don't have a lot of definition. Separate the pieces until you get the desired effect...then just leave it alone. That should give you the look you want. You will have to detangle otherwise you will have locs.

.....yea I know I could do that, I just don't like having to twist my hair. It's really a hassle.....and more so than that, I work out or run like 6 days a week so I rinse my hair everyday so the few times that I have twisted my hair the twist out always ends up just being a one day sorta thing.

Idk really I guess, I was just asking. I guess I'll just detangle my hair once every 4-6 weeks??? Just often enough to keep it from locking but still letting clump up a little bit. I was really just curious as to whether or not ya'll thought it would possible to maintain that without it actually locking up.

It's possible, but for me detangling hair that has been loose for 6 weeks would be more of a hassle than doing a regular twistout.
