Aloe Vera Juice/Gel Lovers
How do you use aloe vera? How long have you used it? Are you protein sensitive?
Everything has aloe vera in it it seems, My hair has a sensitivity to it just as it does to protein. I've been using it (in a spritz )since I colored my hair in July and it seems my hair is very wiry now. Usually I try to use products with aloe vera where it is low in the list but I'm trying out a theory and want to see where it goes in the next 4 months.
It isnt breaking because I'm sealing my hair like crazy. I also havent had to do heavy protein since I'm upped my aloe vera use as well. Its been an interesting 2 months.

I use it in my spritz, along with Rosewater, tresemme naturals moisturizing conditioner, rosemary, lavender, and peppermint oils.

How long have you been using it in spritz? What exactly are you using the spritz for, a refresher/moisturizer?

I have using in my spritz for about 4 months. I use the spritz as a refresher/moisturizer. I use 3/4 rosewater, the rest is equal parts aloe Vera and TN conditioner, about 10 drops of each oil

I use aloe vera gel straight out of the bottle. I sometimes layer it over coconut oil or a leave in. I have some sensitivity to protein. My hair responds well to applying aloe vera gel to wet hair, raking and shaking and then squeezing each section for clumping.
Eta: been using it for 3 or 4 months

i use aloe vera juice and aloe vera gel. i've used them for as long as i can remember. i don't use straight aloe on my hair. i use it in a spritz or mixed with a butter. i also drink aloe vera juice (straight or in a smoothie).
i am not protein sensitive.

Hippy, how often do you have to do a protein treatment? Are your strands coarse, dense, etc?
SS, when was the last time you did a protein treatment?

I use AVJ, I have been using it for a little over a year now. I started out using it straight to spritz my hair on wash day and then once to twice after that when I am re-moisturizing my hair. I now add AVJ, Water and 2-3 tablespoon of glycerine.
Now that the winter is upon us I may have to get to using just AVJ.
I have not had any issue with it, but I tend to use a leave-in over it and seal with my shea butter mix. I guess the leave-in and shea butter balances the protein effects. Beside AVJ is a pH balance-r. HTH

i don't do protein treatments. i ensure my conditioners have protein(s). my strands are fine.
eta: my spritz also contains protein
if i don't have protein(s) in my condish, my hair gets mushy.

I don't do protein treatments either. My hair usually lacks moisture but my moisturizers have protein in them. That's all I need though.

+ 1 I use a protein rinse out. I only need protein treatments if I get extremely mushy overconditioned and I have learned to avoid that. I gave the pt I had to a friend whose hair loves strong protein.
I love aloe vera juice and gel.

I have yet to try it really but when I was little my mom would use the actual gel/juice from the plant to relieve an itchy scalp.....I see this big bottle at CVS but I'm hesitant to try because if it doesn't benefit my hair then it was a waste.
I don't see too many aloe vera plants around where I live so I can't use the real thing :/

There is a tienda (store) near me that sells it but it was a pain to peel and try to get the juice out. If you buy the liquid at the very least you can mix it in your drinks. It is very healthy.

Coarse, low P, consider myself slightly protein sensitive, but who knows really?
My hair really likes aloe, in an aloe rinse, spritz, in shealoe, in ready-made products etc. I don't use it often because I like to use organic inner fillet with as little added as possible = expensive!
I don't really do protein treatments, although I did really like the Mozeke carrot protein mask. Like others, my rinse-outs often have a small amount of protein, also I do henna treatments which acts like a protein on my hair.

It seems my hair is now coarse, it never was in the past prior to using aloe vera straight up. It seems to have added protein to my hair shaft on the regular
I now dont require protein treatments monthly as I use too in the past. I'm not sure if I like the effect.
My hair isn't breaking, not that it was in the past but now its really only shed hair coming out.
I know I don't like the feel of my hair itself though,

i wish i had coarse strands!
are you going to stop using aloe/aloe products?
green tea makes my hair feel very protein-y
black tea doesn't

I use straight avj mixed with evoo as a detangler. My hair loves aloe vera so I usually tend to lean toward products with it.
I have fine to average strands and not protein sensitive.
