Why I Stopped Blogging About Natural Hair | xoJane

Came across this post as I was looking for some "different hair blogs" to read. One could say many things about her reason to stop blogging, but my first thought was, "Once you're in the public arena, get ready for the blows!"

The second thought was, "I wonder if I can still find her blog posts...?"

+ 1 I think some people are a little naive about what happens when you "put yourself out there." She may have approached it as light hearted but she can't control how people react to her. Whether you are an actor, a preacher, or a politician know that when you put focus on you then You will get love and you will get hate no matter what you say and do. Critics will always be among us. So if a person can't handle that or doesn't want to deal with that IMO don't step out or at least disable the comments on your blog page.

I'm never been interested much in blogs anyway. I prefer forums.

I am a bit bemused by this. The whole 'gang' culture that females exert upon each other while condemning the misogyny and chauvinism of men. But seriously, it's very sad to understand that there is a very fiesty and aggressive public out there when it comes to passing down judgements in every area of other people's lives.

It's important to be aware if you are going to blog. And maybe it's not about accepting the 'blows,' but rather being prepared to defend yourself with words while knowing exactly when to stop and press the 'ignore' button on your brain. If you want to share your natural hair journey, then proceed freely but with caution and again awareness. Ultimately, cyberspace is an environment of chaos when it comes to behavior. If someone is going to be an a-hole, then you shouldn't meet them halfway.

Ok I'll make this nice and short and sweet. Some people just can't take the heat that comes along with being a natural blog/vlogger. Not to put her down or anything, but that's her choice not to put up with it. You just can't please everyone. Not should you ever try. It sounds to me more like she stopped posting because she stopped enjoying it. And she let others dictate that. Shoot...if I enjoy doing something, I'm not gonna let what others say about it effect what I'm doing. I respect her for being up front about it though.

This is sad. I can relate to this blogger. when i first went natural its was such an exciting period for me. I felt so alone and when i found natural hair forums and ytube i felt right at home but after the first year i had to pull out due to the amount of negativity there was. I gravitated towards fotki its a photo sharing site where naturals share positive feedback and tips. Of all the 3 yrs of being natural i have never seen women lash out on fotki.
In all i was a bit naive to think all was going to be peachy i mean look @ the world we live in, people are always going to find something to say. I think its mainly rooted from personal issues and jealousy. I give props to those who continue despite of all the bs. I however dont have the time for the cattiness. We are all perfect strangers who share 1 common goal;how to properly manage curly hair...THATS IT. But people seem to forget that fact.

I took a liking to a recent post on here that talked about natural hair rules we didn't follow. I think the rules is just a guide for new naturals once you get a hold of things you should be able to do whatever you want without getting the third degree.

I am so grateful for the useful info i found on these networks but now that i have this natural hair thing down i have no reason to be so involved. There is a plethora full of info now so theres no need for my 2 cents in a blog.

Yeah. This. I was pretty much in the same boat.

I NEED to journal

, so these days, I just keep a personal blog - as I LOVE to talk about hair

, etc. and keep photos of progress, etc.... I guess that would then be a hair diary, huh? LOL.

One of the "rules" about what constitute a BC was pretty strange. I would never have guessed that some people don't think certain hair types or races or whatever can BC. Cutting your hair off is cutting your hair off if you ask me. I don't see why it matters what the hair type is.
