Default Vivscal hair supplements-My personal challenge

I am setting a personal challenge for myself to grow longer hair. I have been natural for over 4 years and my hair grows very slow. The last 2 years I have done protective styles, very seldom use heat and have only achieved about 2 1/2 inches of new growth, which was cut recently when I went to a hair salon and asked for a trim and received a hair cut instead. Now I am back to 8 inches of hair.
I used Viviscal hair supplements over 10 years ago when I was relaxed and my hair grew near my bra strap. I stopped taking them because I became pregnant and completely forgot about them. I recently saw Denimpixie (Elle) video's on viviscal and remembered I use to take them.
I started taking viviscal again on Oct 28th 2012 and will continue to take 2 daily for 1 year. I will show my progress every 3 or 4 months.
I have attached pictures of my hair as of today 12/17/12.
Has anyone else experienced hair growth with viviscal?

Default Update on Viviscal hair supplements

I am still using viviscal. It will be 6 months at the end of April. Some changes I have seen in my hair are: less shedding and breakage, thicker hair and growth.

I have been a slow grower or hardly any growth over the past 4 years I have been natural. I guess I average about 1/4 inch every month. Now with viviscal, I am getting about 1/2 inch of growth every month, which is average for some people, so people who get 1/2 inch every month would probably get 1 inch every month with viviscal. I am pleased with the 1/2 inch every month. I do know in the summer months my hair grows faster, so I believe I will reach my goal by the end of the year.

I have made some changes in my hair regimen. I have been using henna for the past 2 years. I henna every 2 months. My last henna was in Dec. 2012 and I was still seeing breakage, so I decided to not henna the rest of 2013 and see if the breakage stops. I figure the viviscal has marine protein and this should be enough protein for my hair.

I have also started more protective styling, but my grey hairs are around my hairline and since I stopped the henna the grey hairs are more visible with updos. Therefore, I am back to two strand twists covering the grey hairs. Maybe pulling the twists in a ponytail will work. I will have to work on finding a protective style that works for me.

My goal is bra strap length at the end of this year.
I have attached pictures of my progress as of today. I did not measure my hair. I just stretched it. The last picture shows my goal of line 9 1/2 will be the bottom of my bra strap.

Congratulations on your progress! How many pills do you have to take a day?

Thank you Cora. I take 2 pills a day. I take them together, usually at lunch time.

congrats on your growth!
the key for me is taking a regular multi vitamin, not anything specifically geared for hair. i am very anemic. if i don't stay up on my vitamins and iron, my hair either thins drastically or just falls out. i don't have an issue with 'growing' hair. it grows like a weed. it's keeping hair due to lack of necessary iron, minerals etc.

Thanks Hippychic.
I have to continue to take multivitamins with iron too. Right now, I take multivitamins, omega 3, and viviscal daily.

I believe my slow hair growth is contributed to many factors, stress, being an older natural (dealing with menopause) and thinning hair as you get older. All these factors combined has taken a toil on my hair.

I'm just glad I'm seeing improvements. This just tells me, it's important to take care of what is going on inside your body along with how you care for the outside.
