Hats

I like hats. they are fun and warm and a wonderful way to waste money I don't have, but I have no idea how to actually wear one without squishing down my dripping wet fro under one and being uncomfortable cause my hair is sticking to my face :C

How do you ladies wear hats?

Rarely because it took me awhile to figure out how to fit one on my head of massive hair. Depending on the amount of stretch in the hat I found it I put my hair in a low pony tail for awhile it wil reduce the volume in the crown and I can fit a hat on it. Also I worried about knit hats and dryness but Nap85 has a cute beanie video.

I watched a girl lean forward and put her hat on. I tried it and I think it helps preserve the curls on top and minimize hat hair. You don't have to lean but smoothing hair forward should do the trick.

I've been having great results with my satin-lined hat, purchased through Etsy. I wrote a review of it at my blog. The satin protects natural hair.

As for putting on hats, I lightly gather my hair at the top of my head (pineappling) before stuffing it into my hat. If you get too much of a bump on top, try gathering and twisting your hair in a low pony first.

You'll still need to fluff and reshape your hair afterwards. Ah, our curly manes!

It depends on the hat (I'm a hat girl too!). I usually only wear hats with stretched styles because otherwise my head is just too big for them. For beanies and berets, I'll wear a satin bonnet under it and leave whatever hair I want out out.

For cloches and fedoras it's a little more complicated since you can't really wear a barrier under them. To deal with that, I try to smooth my hair down at the top so it's all moving in one direction and put the hat on top. To make sure it's snug, I pull straight down gently to prevent my hair from snagging on the fabric and getting mussed up (this also prevents hat hair!) Finally, I'll fluff what's out (if anything) for what ever effect I'm going for. You'll end up with moderate hat hair since the top will be flatter, but it's not anything that can't be fixed by whipping your hair back and forth and lightly fluffing at the roots.
