How to style my 4a/4b hair

Hello everybody. I'm a guy who's new to trying to care my hair because most my life I've cut it short. I decided to grow it out in order to achieve a certain hairstyle but my hair was a bit dry(hence why I think its 4b) so I bought a few products to help add moisture and get the style I desired but apparently I didn't do my research because it went horribly wrong(not that bad really).

My problem is after using a new shampoo and a leave in I can't really see my coils like I could before using the products but I think its because the way I used the shampoo loosen my coils because I followed the instructions and pulled from the root to the ends.

I used Tresemme Curl Enhancing Shampoo and a shea butter leave in creme conditioner.

What I want to know is how to enhance my coils and get them like this picture, instead of how it looks now.

How I'd like it to be
I can't see your photo for how your hair is but my guess is that you have a moisture issue. When I use a stronger shampoo, I have to dc after to get my moisture levels back on track. you may need to use a dc or at least a rinse out conditioner before applying your leave in. I only have one shampoo I can use without following with a dc and it's a very mild poo bar.

ITA with ad about need moisture. Once you get your moisture back, you'll see your coils again.

IMHO, shampoos don't loosen coils, They are used to cleanse. Some of them (formulated with sulfates) can strip the hair of moisture. So, it's really important to dc after a shampoo. If you could see your coils before using the new products, then your hair probably doesn't like the new products.

Without seeing your pic, it's hard to tell if your hair is capable of looking the Usher's. But, my hair is closer to 4a than any other "hair type", and my hair looks like his when I style it with conditioner still in it like this.

I saturate my hair with conditioner, then massage it into my hair with my palm in a circular motion (kind of like waxing a car). Or like they do in Nudred demos (without the sponge). I rinse the conditioner and apply a leave-in or moisturizer with that same waxing motion.

Hope this helps.
