Default How to get scalp clean?

No matter what shampoo Or cowash I use I just can never seem to get my scalp clean! I've tried just about everything but clay, but clay may be a serious mess in my hair. I have EXTREMELY tightly coiled 4a hair. And it is very, very dense. My coils are about the circumference a tiny sewing needle. I just can't get my scalp clean. I have tried to section and twist it then shampoo with my hair in twists and really dig with the pads of my fingers, but when I get out of the shower, everytime, without fail, when I scratch my scalp because of the tiniest itch, there is light brown dirt coming off on my nails. I even tried an ACV rinse. Any ideas? Anyone? I'm very tired of it never getting truly clean.

It sounds like you need to try a clarifying cleanser. And to rinse more thoroughly when you cleanse.

I think Aubrey Organics has one (all natural) and I know Suave has a good one (daily clarifying shampoo) and Neutrogena has one as well that has gotten good reviews.

P.S.
You can also try cleansing in sections (one section at a time)--it may take a little longer, but couldn't hurt...

Hope This Helps!

I've had to do my acv before shampoo in order to really get the buildup off. I use an applicator bottle and scrub that in as if it were shampoo, then move on to my normal routine.

I cant get my scalp clean by just scrubbing with the pads of my fingers and not scratching with my nails, so I bought a shampoo brush & have been using that for years. I lather with my fingers, then do a once over with that then rinse & it cut down shampoo time a TON for me. I also section for easier access to my scalp..
I got mine from my grocery store and havent seen anymore there since, but its basically the same as this http://www.amazon.com/Scalpmaster-Sh.../dp/B000NJG82W

Default Shampoo brush

How exactly do you use a shampoo brush? And does it feel rough on your scalp at all?

Try shampooing via an applicator bottle. It's the only way I can get my scalp clean.

Try to use the black purification mask as a pre poo. It works wonders for my scalp.

How often do you shampoo? I have always even when relaxed had to do it at least once maybe twice a week to keep my scalp clean. Also Do you put anything on you scalp? When I used to try to grease my scalp although my scalp hated it because people said all black people had to grease their scalps i had the same problem as you. I don't use grease at all and really my scalp can take or leave a light oil but I use ayurvedic or jojoba sometimes.

If not an applicator bottle putting the shampoo directly on your scalp. My hair is very thick and that helps.

I agree with the applicator bottle. Only way I can get my scalp clean while shampooing in twists. If you have dense hair, it's a game changer.

I do the same thing. I shampoo in twists by using an applicator bottle. If lets me get my scalp nice and clean without tangling or dryness.

I have this problem too, and I find a shampoo bar helps because it's going directly on the scalp.
