Please read and comment over at HuffPo: Cassandra Jackson: Is the Natural Hair Journey the Old Road to 'Good Hair'?

Im not feeling the article.
I reduce shrinkage because letting my hair at my current length dry unstretched causes major tangles. Not healthy. My hair when properly moisturized is curly and coily. A frizzball means my hair is dry. Also not healthy.. So elongation and curl definition are not just about aesthetics. and being a pj imo is not a glaring sign of being good hair obsessed. Dif types of pjs. Im only a pj for conditioners because that and oil most of the time is all my hair likes. I tell people on the boards and wherever if they are not ready to accept their hair as it is they shouldnt go natural.

And why does the author seem to minimize white women and their curly hair issues? How does she know? And what is the point.. I would never speak for how it is to be something Im not be it race, gender. Religion, sexual orientation ect. Yet if a white woman wrote an article trivializing black women's hair issues folks would be pissed.

Ps. I didnt like TER's signature hair style much when she was Girlfriends. That half pulled back. Made her forehead look big. I have that same deal with my forehead. I love it now she lets it fall forward mostly.
Good point, adthomas!
adthomas, I agree. I keep my hair stretched as well to keep ssks and tangles at bay. I realized through my journey, that my hair doesn't do well in a shrunken state. Frizzy = dry for my hair, I have learned that too. Too much generalization in this article to be informative or useful, IMO.

and that's folk how you turn a positive into a negative. Ross came out with a great idea of loving your own hair and here we go! We don't love our natural hair enough??

What about being excited and happy with your hair that you do, want to try ALL kind of styles, what about the freedom to do whatever you please with my hair, natural or not. I already know what works for my hair as far as product is concern but I still like to try different products, I love that my hair is versatile and that I am learning how to manage it and what to do with it. How to keep it moist and healthy. At the end of the day I just want to do what works for me and rolling out of bed with tangled hair does not work

I actually agree with many of the points the author made. Yes, black women should do whatever they want with their bodies--including their hair, but to not at least examine why we choose to do what we do is not helpful to future generations (or ourselves). Women in general need to learn to appreciate all that they are and make decisions out of love for themselves and not out of contempt and fear. Don't let me get started on the fact there are some women who won't go out of the house without their "face done".
I will read the article soon and give my feedback on it afterwards.
