Default Suggestions for products on 4B hair?

Hello everyone,

I'm looking for some products that I can use daily to define my curl pattern (4B).

I've used KCCC two days ago with Knot Today, but it didn't yield any great results. I used a wide tooth comb, and I even combed the product through with a Denman brush.

Previously, I've been using SheaMoisture's Curl Enhancing Smoothie daily, and i'll just wet my hair a little and rub it in and call it a day (The only time I comb my hair is after I wash it)

I just need a product that'll be good with clumping my hair together and defining my curl without having to soak my head every morning like KCCC requires.

Also, is it because my hair is too short? When stretched it out, it's about 2-3 inches

I believe I have something close to 4b hair but I'm not totally sure so forgive me of my suggestions suck!

I did the BC last month and so far the combination that BEST brings out my curls is water, shea moisture raw Shea butter leave in, a little bit of oil OR a homemade shea butter mixture and the homemade flaxseed gel.

I've done several different combinations with the last product being some type of curl definer. Shea moisture products are good and moisturize really well but they don't define my curls as good as the flaxseed gel does. So far I've tried the Shea moisture curling gel soufflé, curl enhancing smoothie, Eden pudding soufflé, some twisted sister curl definer, and they're all okay, but haven't gotten excellent results as far as individual curl definition.

I'm still on the hunt myself for an awesome curl definer other than the homemade gel.

First thing is asking yourself how well hydrated do you keep your hair. I think a lot of newbies are trying to to get to curl def so fast they aren't focusing on enough on retaining moisture. The two are connected. Stylers to me are like icing on a cake and I don't think any styler is going to define parched hair. I believe moisture levels can build up over time in some hair and lead to more definition. If moisture is a problem and you have not already I suggest you try CG.

Well I co-wash every Wednesday for moisturizing and I use in Knot Today for a Leave-In. As far as moisturizing goes, the only thing that I've been putting on my head is the SheaMoisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie. I do have some Care Free Curl Instant activator, do you think I should that in along with the Curl Enhancing Smoothie?

Finally, what is CG?

CG = Curly Girl.

Curl Activator is actually really good for clumping because it's moisturizing. But, like adthomas said, usually if you keep your hair moisturized, it will curl up; that's why curl activators work well because they keep your hair wet almost.

I've gotten the best results using some sort of curl activator gel like Hawaiian Silky or that one in the pink and black jar, I can't think of the name of it. But, I try to use products with decent ingredients and most of the curl activators have parabens and other things in them that irritate me. Eco Styler Gel is also good at defining curls.

Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie has some protein in it so maybe you want to try using something more moisturizing if you feel it's needed.

I just started using Care Free Curl and SheaMoisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie together and I love the result so far! It's like I'm activating the curls and then enhancing them lol

Your hair may be like mine.

This is what has worked for me: wash as normal, condition, detangle, rinse, apply conditioner to soaking wet hair (important: do not comb or brush, it will kill the curls), smooth custard in sections of hair using the praying hands method, do not touch until dry.

At night put hair up in ponytails in long enough.

In the morning spritz lightly with water and fluff or pass steaming wand over hair.

It sounds like u need a moisturizer and KCCC is not it, it's more of a styling gel. Look for daily moisturizers or leave-ins that list water as the first ingredient. Then try your gel or curl defining pudding. After looking at Pinterest, I discovered that you can achieve the most moisture and curl definition by applying products in the shower on dripping wet hair and then sleeping with a shower cap and satin bonnet on your head to lock in moisture.

I use the Cantu co-wash on wash days. For daily moisture and curl definition i use the cantu leave-in conditioning repair cream, mixed with castor oil and olive oil. That conditioner mixture leaves you hair so soft and curly! I also have the Cantu defining and curl custard that you can apply for a soft shinier curl definition. These prododucts work wonders for my 4a/4b hair.
