I just received my mailer and I'm a little surprised. All of the models are ethnic and all the featured hair products are companies that target black women. I know Sally's has never asked me my race. Did Sally's create multiple mailers? Was what I was sent this based on my purchase history? I'm wondering what others received. Never seen that before from Sally's. Yes, I do buy mostly natural products but I buy other things there too not found in the natural hair aisle. I did get my coupon whooot whoot!

My sales ads for hair products are as follows,
Mizani
Proclaim
Silk Elements
Shea Moisture
Jamaican Black Castor Oil
Eden Bodyworks
Reshma Henna
Curls
Mystic Divine
Some relaxers
Cream Of Nature
Clairol ( features black model)
Hair extensions

The rest is nail polish, lotion, makeup and hair tools like flat irons.
i haven't received anything yet.
LOIS (OS); cottony, TYPE 4 hair, fine/med strands; no cones bcz my hair hates them; last relaxer '98; now low porosity, ignores most natural hair rules; BC #8

faves: suave, v05 shampoo, conditioner (my own), raw shea butter, castor oil, peanut oil, aloe juice
I haven't received a Sally's mailer (I'm in Canada, so maybe that's why), but it wouldn't surprise me if they used your purchase history to figure out what kind of person you are.

The whole point of 'membership cards,' for the retailer, is to track purchasing history. How much, on average, is this person spending a month? What items is this person likely to buy? If Person A bought Product 1 and Product 2, then would Person B, who normally buys Product 1, also be inclined to buy Product 2?

In Canada we have a chain of drugstores called Shopper's Drugmart and they have a points program/membership club called "Shopper Optimum." It definitely track your purchases. I get daily email offers and coupons catered to my purchasing history. Once I bought two bottles of Advil in one month and for months after that, I kept getting emails whenever Advil was on sale. I also once went on a makeup shopping spree, and less than a week later, I got an email for all these cosmetic coupons.

Customer-specific targeted ads are fairly common these days. It's the best way to promote something.
adthomas likes this.
Hair type: Mostly 3C, medium porosity to high porosity depending on the day, dense, fluffy, dry, tangly!

It worked. I did buy from them on BF. But a side note the deals advertised in the mailout were not marked on the shelf so I had to bring it up to them for them to honor the buy two get one free.. So I wonder if some people didn't what they should have.
