Going Back

For the past 3 months I have been installing box braids in my hair... I originally did this because I wanted a break form my hair and was getting utterly frustrated with it... Now though, I feel as if the braids have become a crutch for not dealing with my hair...I previously damaged my hair due to a bad color experience but I am not ready to cut all the damaged part of.. I am probably short/medium length hair.. That stage everyone calls the awkward stage (yeah that's where I am at)... I am huge natural hair advocate. For anyone going natural I encourage it. But with me and my own curls, because they are so short and tight, it is hard to accept...

I had to fight temptation not to cut my hair in the tween stage. I like short and long but not middle so much. If you learn your hair's likes dislikes it should grow healthy. My hair dislikes permanent dye so I don't use it. It broke my hair off and I cut it off. If your hair is breaking splitting you might actually be doing more harm holding on to the damage.

As far embracing your curls that is a journey you have to take for yourself. Ask yourself why you find tight curls so unappealing.

I am the same way in the fact that I either like it short or long... I'm big on the middle stage and that's were I am at now.. Once I get past that I will be golden.. The only throng that keeps me from cutting it is I really wanna want it to grow out and I don't wanna go through this stage again for a while. So I completely understand.
Also how would keeping the damaged ends cause more harm do you think... They still curl tight, but they aren't the same texture as the rest...

get a good blow dryer and stop trying to do wash and gos if you are. It's probably not the look you want.

Try using conditioner only to wash. It softens and hydrates which makes hair more manageable. Wash your hair, blow it dry then style it. if you can corn row, or do flat twist do this to your hair and then take it out as your way of setting your hair.

Get a great blow dryer...that means you can't find it at sally's. It's likely a professional tool.

I hated my short length because i think i had more shrinkage or something..I dunno.

Finally one note that is so important. You do have to work on self acceptance of the curls. One of my Best friends is a 3c and in the beginning whenever we went out i had to deal with people discussing how much they love her hair, and i didn't get those compliments. I had to learn to love and manage what was on my head. Now that i have, i love my hair nad can't wait until the day when it's long enough that even when it shrinks...it's still a great length.

I'd consider that but I haven't used heat on my hair for years... And I can see how that could be a discouraging experience.

My hair isn't fond of blow drying. if yours isn't either one thing I do is put my two strand twist on large rollers and sit under hooded dryer about 20 minutes then I take out rollers and let my hair air dry.. I gives me great stretch.
