It is hot as heck outside. What is helping your curls stay healthy and beautiful and what is falling short?

Miss - Camille Rose Naturals Almond Jai Twisting Butter
Not moisturizing. tried it twice and no go. I think this may be a better winter product when I use lots of heave conditioner so this can seal. Also I think this has honey. Honey is great in my hair but not left in.

Miss SM balancing conditioner. Does nothing for my hair. Says it can be a li but that was a disaster. I'm using it now as a skin lotion since for execema and all and works well..cleared a problem spot.

Nothing but hits so far:
Naptural85's 25 minute detangling process: Didn't have any coconut oil so I melted shea butter instead and got awesome results in only 15 minutes!

Aloe Vera Juice: (don't judge me for this one Lol) Finally purchased some AVJ and didn't think twice about it being the berry-flavored one. Used it anyway, hair felt soft and fluffy and smelled great too. Next time, I'll definitely buy the right bottle though Lol.

Suave Professionals Almond & Shea Butter Conditioner: Omg love this!! Used as a cowash, dc, and leave-in styler for the Tightly Curly method. Results were great. Think I may have to drop my overly priced Curls Unleashed products.

Tightly Curly Method: Was so skeptical about using only using conditioner versus gel but I'm pleased with the results so far.

Africa's Best Herbal Oil: Smells like baby oil and my hair is finally shiny.

SM Curling Souffle: Finally found a use for this! Mixed in a spray bottle with water, it made for a great curl refresher for my wng.

Shampoo: Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Shine
Cowash: Curls Unleashed No Restrictions Conditioner
Deep Conditioner: Shea Moisture Deep Treatment Masque
Leave-In: Curls Unleashed No Boundaries
Oils: olive, argan, and Jamaican Black castor oils
I have to cosign on Naptural85's 25 minute cowash. I was skeptical at first but the end result was good.

Design Essentials Natural Honey CurlForming Custard is a win for me. I've been using it for two months and my hair loves it. I like how it makes my curls shiny and moisturized.

Miss - MHM (Maximum Hydration Method).
I thought I would give this a try to help along the clumping that usually takes a lot of product and water to achieve only to evaporate come 2 hours. Well, this actually made my hair drier, unfortunately. I know it's geared at Low Porosity people, but I thought I'd still give it a whirl for fun (my hair already dries pretty quickly if left free). The ACV and Baking Soda rinses really irritated my scalp and by the final leave-in conditioner step, my hair was begging for respite. My scalp was tingling/burning like I'd had salt on an open wound randomly last week. My hair also was drying within 20-30 minutes from getting out of the shower. My roots actually became kinkier coils (diameter of coil shrank) than they are naturally, so I'm never gonna rock a MHM wash-n-go, just my usual WnG fro.

Hit - Naturalicious Moroccan Rhassoul 5-in-1 Clay Treatment.
It was very, very expensive, but I sucked it up and ordered it. I am very pleased with the results, even though it demonstrably doesn't smell like "chocolate." It smells like...clay. In any case, I was able to wash out loads of product so easily (we're talking AIA CocoShea Whip + KCCC + SM CGS + SM Mist + Coconut Oil)! I left it on for about 5-8 minutes while I threw some stuff on in the kitchen, I rinsed it out and detangled in the shower with it.
I didn't apply any leave-in after, just 2 stylers: SM CGS + 3 Sisters Curling Gelo. Hair has hold. May try spritzing with aloe vera juice before stylers next time though because it's getting crunchy/dry by hour 10.

Hit - making a green tea spritz. love it. I did log method with it.

I wasn't sure I wanted to try this then I remembered the first moisturizer I had any success with as a natural was Roots Of Nature Green Tea Shea Butter. It's moisture was how I realized my hair was curly.
Hit: I just started oil rinsing my hair. This is very good for people who suffer with very dry hair. I used avocado, coconut, olive, and grape seed oil. Excellent blend of oils. Oil rinising is a vital step in my regiment.

Miss: She scent it marula hemp cream. It does not give the moisture that I need for my hair. Can anyone if suggestions on a good moisturizer?

Hit: Wet Line Xtreme gel- never wore a wash and go. Since '09, I've tried with creams, conditioner, gels, activator, custard, techniques, methods, etc. This is the one thing that has worked.

Continued Hit: Naptural 85 Cowash regimen. Works perfectly.

Miss: Carol's Daughter Hair Milk Leave In, just can't make it work for me. Tried different ways, and methods. Ended up giving it away.

Hits:
Andre Walker Beautiful Kinks Creme Gelee

I raved about this some months ago, then put it away to play around in summer gels. Re-visiting this it still rocks and it actually works the same in all seasons. My hair is smooth, shiny and well defined. No webby frizz and my definition lasts until I wash my hair. It also reactivates very well with just water or water/leave-in. This is a definite staple and has replaced most of my hair lotions/creams/stylers.

Trader Joe's Nourish Spa (old formula)

I have been using it more this summer to both condition my hair and co-wash since I am wetting more often. I love how it is creamy, foams nicely, hydrates and mildly cleanses. Too bad they changed the formula to include dimethicone. I need a replacement.

Pre-liminary Hit:
My Honey Child Organic Styling Creme
I was looking for something comparable to the Andre Walker since my hair likes that ingredient sequence (water first, butter second, oils third, fatty alcohols fourth). I used this over a leave-in and MHC Sophia's grease and so far so good. Shine, softness, definition; a little greasy so I will see if using less makes a difference.

Miss:
Aloe Vera Juice/Gel in products including Kinky-Curly Custard, Curl Junkie Rehab conditioner, Camille Rose Aloe Butter + Curl Love Milk and Oyin Handmade Hair Dew. Aloe Vera never dries in the summer apparently. These products have been leaving my hair frizzy, coated, crunchy and dried out lately.

Gel of any kind-
*Other than re-visiting the X-Treme Wetline Gel lately, Gel has been drying for my hair this summer; leaving it dull. I tried different types including organic and drugstore brands. I only now remembered that my hair prefers minimal product in humid weather. My hair has been noticeably more moisturized with just leave-ins and cream stylers. I will return to gel in Winter.

Really enjoying Faith in Nature's chocolate conditioner. Is a little watery, but it seems to be really enhancing my curls and helping me to achieve second/third day hair!
Allie

3A with some 3B thrown in. Medium porosity. High density. Low-medium thickness.

Pre-poo: Organic Virgin Coconut Oil
Low-poo: Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Shine
Conditioner: Faith in Nature or
Shea Moisture Raw Restorative
D/C: Giovanni 2chic Avocado & Olive Oil Ultra Moist Deep Moisture Mask

Leave-in: My DNA
Styler: Ouidad Climate Control Heat & Humidity or
Umberto Giannini Scrunching Jelly

Aiming for WL curls (eventually)
Miss: Curl Junkie Pattern Pusha
I should know better as I have had this for a long time and it has only not flaked ONCE hahaha. But I am a hard-headed gel addict and it's sitting in my closet laughing at me. I am determined to figure this stuff out. I'm thinking with no LI whatsoever is the key...

Hit: Going back to old faves
PM Supercharged. All the luscious hydration of CJ Rehab without the shea butter. Perfect for me in the summer if I feel I need just a bit of moisture boost.

Kenra MC: Ulta had their liter sale so I picked up another bottle of this. Must have on hand at all times

PM The Conditioner: See above re: Ulta liter sale

TIGI Moisture Maniac: um why is this still available years after being "discontinued"? Nevermind. I don't want to look a gift horse in the mouth. I have no tangles at the moment despite being thoroughly due for a trim. 3 big bottles on deck.

Shower Mirror: Thanks to Naptural85's recent vids I decided to pick one up. While I still style my hair out of the shower, detangling time in the shower somehow seems much more productive with this on my wall

New to me, semi-hit: AIA Curling Jelly. I didn't expect to like this but then I remembered that it's made by the same chemist that formulates Keracare. So I tried it and it's much better than the Keracare version. Might be my go-to when I want to take a break from Eco styler. Still testing though.

Semi-Miss: Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Leave-In Conditioner

I washed my hair with AIA Coconut Cowash and Shea Moisture Restorative Conditioner.

While wet, I used the LOC method (Water - Grapeseed Oil - SM JBCO Leave-In Conditioner).

Pros: Detangling/Slip properties are GREAT, softness while wet was unbelievable, smells amazingly like, as my partner put it, "Christmas". I can layer it w/ Curling Gel Soufflé and KCCC for moisture and hold w/o residue or fragrance-note competition.

Cons: That I have to layer it w/ another moisturizer in the first place. Hair dries HARD, does not feel moisturized...in the middle of the night, I suddenly smelled...playdough? Dubiously long ingredients that should've raised by spidey senses because they are proteins and/or things that don't have layman's terms in parantheses (like my Curling Gel Soufflé does), the fact that I still am about to do the BOGO sale to try the SM JBCO Styling Lotion *smh*

I love JBCO but I am determined to pass on the new SM line even if a BOGO temps me. As long as they are in love with coconut oil it's going to be hard for me to get consistently good results.
my hit - shea moisture smoothie leave in
my miss - this thick protein deep conditioner
Pre-Poo: Aleo/acv + oil
Shampoo: Shampoo bar
Conditiner: A Mix of things
Leave-in: thick leave in/ butter
Refresh: light leave in /water/oil
UPDATE:

Semi-HIT (previously semi-MISS): Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil Leave-In Conditioner

What originally had a beautiful fragrance of peppermint and vanilla spice has definitely developed into a funky old plastic playdough smell. I shall persevere, though! I'll figure out how to doctor this up, because I LOVE how my hair feels and looks!

I've also discovered that, for me at least, LOC does NOT equal LCO.

With LCO method,
L = water
C = SM JBCO Leave-In
O = Coconut Oil + Castor Oil

My hair was re-donk-u-lous-ly soft. It's like it just untangled itself when I finally took down the remaining mini-twists I'd left randomly in my fro.
Shed hairs literally just "came away" when I raked my fingers through my hair w/ a spritz of water.

I've washed my hair today with Aphogee Moisture Shampoo (layover from relaxed days) + Naturalicious Moroccan 5-in-1 Clay Treatment, and my hair is still clumping and coiling up uniformly. I am literally *shocked* at the longterm benefits of SM JBCO LI and Coconut Oil + Castor Oil.
