Thanks yea it feels thicker wooo! Haha, I was telling my sister she is next, once I purchase some more henna... I'm going to do two more treatments, one with Catherine's and one with the 1.99 stuff. Then I'll try to order in bulk so I can have a henna party

I just emailed the Robert Craig consultant about using cassia and RC together. All these results are compelling.

Well, thanks to Spiral and Heather, I use Aubrey Organics Honey Suckle Rose (purchased at Whole Foods) with EVOO and Honey mixed in. Before, I was using Blended Beauty Curl Quenching Conditioner (purchased at sistasplace.biz) w/EVOO and honey.

(She's preaching to the choir on the RC condish.) This is pretty much what I thought. And I think I'm way to gray (over 80%) to use henna without looking like a fire engine.

SB, I wouldn't give up yet. Most hair people confuse the effects of compound henna (because it's cheap and common) with natural henna. Compound henna coats the hair shaft, natural henna works on the inside of the hair shaft. At least, that's what Catherine and her studies say. Otherwise, henna would be worse than cones - it would just build up and never get washed off (because it's permanent) and block out moisture. And that's not the case.

Maybe you can test a small inconspicuous area and see what happens?
SB, Jeamaria's right. For some reason cassia's effects don't last as long as henna's. So maybe you can try it on a discrete section.

Also, I would suggest you e-mail or call Catherine and ask for her perspective (she's doing her PhD studies on henna, so she can even point you to academic articles - she recently referred me to one on tannins) and then you can weigh both sides and make a decision.

She said this about henna, and I'm pretty sure it's also the case for cassia, minus the lawsone:

"Perhaps the metals in compound henna sit around on the outside of the hair shaft, but the Lawsone in henna penetrates and binds with the keratin. There, it does indeed make the hair thicker! Yes, your hair gets fat and happy on henna!"

and

"Tannins in Cassia and henna strenthen your hair. Lawsone in henna dyes your hair."

It's amazing how much science there is behind the stuff we do to our hair
. I want to know more about how tannins work.

ETA: Guys, I've been having good hair days, everyday! Geesh...i'm getting the itch and my next scheduled henna'ing ain't until Friday night. Today, one of my co-workers told me it looked like I had on a wig When I looked at her puzzled, she was like...its a good thing, lol, your hair looks different and I like it. My curls are much more 'clumpy' and the shine is pretty darn ridiculous... I guess it is a different head of hair
