Experiences with Henna?

Well I just realized that I mixed this ish in a metal pot, the pot and the henna was ridiculously cold when I touched it so I put the pot inside my heated conditioning cap lol.

[quote="curlynikki"]so, i met w/ FrizzCurls today at our Connect's house to buy more henna of course, and how about her hair is GAWGEOUS! I'm sure it was pretty before the henna, but her color is so rich in person...even indoors

I just finished applying this stuff....my hair drank it like a milkshake. I need 200g. I used 150. I got it covered though, but I'm going to use 200 for future applications. I SHOULD'VE LISTENED TO YOU NIK! Okay, so I'm definitely buying in bulk from now on. I did get dye release, probably not as much as I should have though. I also think that maybe i should have added more honey. Ah well, I'll get it next time. I'm sleeping in this stuff. So I'll be up soon to wash it out...wow I'm really looking forward to that lol.

Nikki,

It seems you don't live far from me. I'm a student at Duke and I want the Henna experience.

I recently purchased the Hennalucent stuff and I've yet to use it. I'm thinking you guys will say I should return it.

I was thinking about going to Whole Foods and trying their stuff instead.

But again, I'm thinking you guys will encourage me to do otherwise.

To be honest I'm a little anxious and I want to do something by tomorrow.

Nikki, is there a local (Durham) Indian store where I can purchase some of that good stuff?

Also, my hair is a deep brown and I want some red. Will any of the store bought stuff (i.e. from Whole foods or sally's) do the job?

And I feel you on the 'can't wait to wash it out', which is why I started sleeping in it. Awake, I couldn't take it for more than 3 or 4 hours.

Okay, I just finished washing this stuff out and now I'm DCing. My head smelled like a soul food restaurant.

Instant Results: Curls were bigger and more pulled out and hair was bigger.

I honestly think I got an unfresh box so I'm going to buy 10 boxes of the bridal quality Jamila from Henna Me. Nikki, have you placed your extra large order from Abid yet?

Alright my hair is styled with KCCC and a little HE SMU smoothed on the crown to calm frizz(thought I'd try this again). Pictures were taken and will be posted tonight. I'm going to henna my hair a couple more times before I make a decision. Sometimes it takes time before you see results. I'm thinking of ordering from FNWL I looked at mariage's fotki and hers turned out great. The color is really pretty. I'm trying to stay as economical as possible.Henna is an expensive beauty routine to do once a week.
However, I do really like my hair today and hope with the better henna I get better hair.

Ajidahk, I'm sorry about the cassia. I would especially expect results after a back to back treatment. I'd like to know what steps you followed too.

I washed my hair with TJ's nourish shampoo and I detangled with a V05 condish. I rinsed my hair really well and then section my hair.

I let my hair dampen, then proceded to put the cassia in my hair. I realized that I didn't have quite enough to cover my head when I got to the top of my head, so I kind of wet the part of my hair that was already covered in cassia and smoothed my uncovered hair with it. I let the cassia stay in my hair for ~45mins and then rinsed it out.

I did it this way the first time I did cassia and the second time I did it, I elimintated the V05 to detangle. Did I do something wrong here?

if you guys are in Durham, there is an Indian market on University Drive in the little shopping strip behind the BB&T bank building. there is a mediterranean restaurant called saladalia at the end closest to the street. i've gotten amla powder and coconut oil from there in the past. i'll actually be doing an amla powder mask on my scalp as i do a neutral henna on my hair this weekend.

i also want to add that i don't pre-shampoo and condition my hair prior to doing a neutral henna. i think coating your hair prior with conditioner will prevent the henna from penetrating your hair. this may be why one or more of you have not gotten the results that most others here have.

I have VO5 Vanilla Mint and Nature's Gate Aloe conditioner on my experiment list. I plan to do my weekly with just 25 grams of henna mixed with conditioner.

with the gloss do you let the henna release, or just mix the powder with the conditioner?

Cool spiral thanks for the information. However, I just bought 2 pounds of henna from FNWL and 8oz of avocado oil. I would've just bought the henna but they do that stupid $5 charge for orders under $20 now. So, hopefully by this time next week I'll be doing my second henna treatment.

Yeah I really don't care much for the dye content like you said Nikki. I might one day buy in bulk the Henna in the silver packets, but for right now the clear bagged Jamila is fine.

Okay, i asked this earlier but I'm going to ask it again. Is henna always a bright green or can it vary in shades? Mine was more of a grayish or brownish green...dirty green. It smells like hay though. Is that normal?

ItsiRC- yeah that really threw me off and I don't know what was up with that. I think mine hadn't been properly stored and had been sitting on the shelf for awhile so it went old. Let me know how your dye release works out cause mine totally didnt.
