Nikkie: that's good to know. I think I need to cut back on the shampoo too. I couldn't help but notice under your message that 1 of you HGs is
Aubrey Organics Mandarin Magic Hair Jelly. Do you have any pics of results using this? No more HE be gel? lol

Foxy: so u used AO HSR conditioner after you rinsed out the cassia? where could I buy shikakai, and does it color the hair?

Windflower: thank you very much for that info. I really do need to cut back on my shampoo use and do co washes like I used to. I haven't done a co wash in like a year so I got alot of catchin' up 2 do.

THANX EVERYONE!!!!

ETA: Also, ya'll know I fluff and fluff and fluff to get my hair to appear to be big. Well the new combo makes my fluffing job much easier. It dries fluffier and bigger, so I only fluff and shake a bit now!

Shikakai doesnt color the hair. I have to warn you though it has these beads that are so hard to get out. I mean after you dry your hair, you might notice them on your sink as you manipulate your hair. So while its a great concept..Its kinda annoying.
I ordered mine online with my Cassia and you can find it in Indian Stores as well.

Do you do a deep treat after you use the Alma treatment?
i am sitting with henna treatment 2. i think my perfect amount is 1.67777 or 1 2/3 cups of henna. this time i think i'm going to use a little bit of shampoo to make sure i don't have any residual. i'll rinse either late tonight or early morning so i can style for turkey day my hair must be looking better b/c i went to an event last night and received lots of compliments and even from some other fabulous naturals. i think henna is doing its job! i'm so excited to see if i get some building results this time...whoo hoo!

Mothereartha my rule is you gets no congratulations from me until you give up some pics. You could be lying to us lol. I use that amount too btw.

I've also noticed that after I've already rinsed out what I think is the majority of the henna and then I put on my deep conditioner, I rinse it out and even more henna washes out. That henna is tricky sometimes. I'll probably henna next week since I won't get to do it this weekend. I think I'm going to switch to every other week now anyway. But for real congrats on your results. Now post some pics lol.

I've read through most but not all of this thread and decided to get some henna at my local indian grocery. It was really cheap!! I bought 4 boxes of the 100g Jamila Henna for only $1.49 each!!

They had several other brands for the same price but I went with the Jamila since everyone here seems to like it.

I also got 100g boxes of Amla Powder and Shikakai for $1.49 each.

I am off to buy some honey for my hair. I'll mix the henna tonight and apply it in the morning.

I am really excited and cannot wait!!!

Edit - Can someone please pm me directions on how to make and apply Amla and Shikakai treatments?

TIA!!!!
Henna Fridays!

This is my second to last time for weekly applications Beginning in December, I'll do it every other week. However, my new job allows me to work from home...so that should mean more henna treatments, right?

Anyone else henna'ing tonight?

Usually, I like to let it sit alllll day (like 6am to 6pm), but since I sleep in it anyway, I'll be okay. Jamila henna releases pretty quick. I had dye release after 5 hours. It's only been 7 or so hours since I mixed mine up and it definitely stained my arms and feet, lol. If you mix it up now, you can apply tonight (if you stay up late) and rinse tomorrow around lunch. That's my plan After you mix it up, put it on a heating pad or place it in front of a space heater (medium not high heat) and it'll help the dye to release quicker. You could always wait until tomorrow (unfortunately you won't be celebrating Henna Fridays ), but you'd have to wear it during the day. And after 9 or 10 treatments, I've come to the conclusion that its much easier to just sleep in it.

Thanks CN,

I have my henna brewing under my heating cap. My husband came into the bathroom and saw all of the towels, newspaper, measuring cups, etc. around the room and slowly backed out . He's bald and the different products and treatments that I do on my hair are such a mystery to him .

I am so obsessed that I have a second trip planned to the local Indian store tomorrow. Now that I know what to do with it, I'd like to get some more Amla powder and more Jamila henna. They have several different brands as well and I am tempted to try some different ones too, although I'm a little scared about what funky color they may release in my hair .

Can't wait!!!
Damn grey hairs finally crept back....
I hate them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So tomorrow is going to be a Henna day. I will prepare it tonight and slap it on my hair tomorrow afternoon. I'm going to attempt to leave it on all night. If I put Henna on my bed my husband will probably leave me LOL He'll be in Rhode Island tomorrow so I'm taking advantage of it.

This time I'm going to use an Aphogee moisturizer after I'm done

I hennaed my hair a couple of weeks ago and I must say that henna is so freakin awesome. It made my hair so soft. It was kinda weird though. In parts of my hair the curl was loosened to a point where it was almost straight but that went back to normal after a few days. I'm really excited I just got my cassia today in the mail but I cant use it since use it till tomorrow...our water heater is broken...so my hair is a little funky...2nd day hair generally doesnt exist for me...anyways yay for henna
Well Natural Remedy, what does Henna actually do, I looked at some of your pix and we have very similar hair, and when i was younger my hair was pretty lengthy then i relaxed it and it became ugh! then my mom forced me to let it grow out and now my hair is about shoulder length when wet, and when I blow dry it its really pretty and thick but i need help styling it curly instead of ponytails and globs of gel that has left the back and front of my hair totally dry, does henna help with that?
Here is my First Henna Story:

I mixed 200g of Jamila Henna with 60 ml (4 tbsp) of ACV and 200 ml of water. It was very, very thick like wet cement in texture. I put it on a heating pad to accelerate the color release at 8pm last night. I began to apply it at about 11:30 pm. I bought a cheapie $.99 plastic table cloth and spread it on the floor to catch any splatters. Because it was soo thick, it didn't splatter too badly as I sectioned my hair and applied it. I put it on really thick and I still had about 1/2 of a box left over so I wrapped it up and froze it for later.

I put on a disposable shower cap, wrapped my hair in saran wrap and then applied my heating cap and went to sleep. I turned the heating cap off after 3 or 4 hours. When I got up in the morning, I tied my head in a large handkerchief and went to the gym. I did 60 min of cardio and hopefully that helped the henna to penetrate further.

I ran a hot bath at 11:30 am and soaked in it. As the water began to cool, I leaned back and dunked my head in the warm water. I then applied my gloves and began to rinse the henna out in the tub. When I'd gotten about 2/3 of it out I hopped in the shower and rinsed the rest of it out. I noticed in the mirror on the way to th shower that my hair was really red!!! My natural color is a medium brown (sandy??) with a bit of copper and this made my hair very bright auburn. I rinsed the rest out, shampooing with CON and applying gobs of VO5 tangerine conditioner and Nature's Gate Chammomile conditioner. I combed through it and it detangled very easily. I rinsed again, applied some elucense as my leave in and now I'm letting it airdry.

I can't wait for it to fully dry so I can see what color it is . There is a lot of natural light in my bathroom so maybe it won't be as bright as I thought.

Overall I really liked the experience and I can see myself doing this 1-2 times per month. My hair does look a little straighter but I'll wait until it's fully dry to make a final assessment.

Thanks to Curly Nikki and Spiral NC for all of the great links, pics and info!!
I just applied Henna to my hair and oh man I forgot how thick this stuff is. I feel like I just added 10 pounds of goop to my head

Solange, the same thing happened to me... I applied the Henna to my head and was afraid that some of it would splatter on the floor, but its so thick that it didn't make a mess at all. I bought two pairs of gloves this time, I refuse to have orange hands when I rinse it out later LOL I have my Apoghee moisturizer nearby and this time it shouldn't make my hair feel so dry. The smell doesn't bother me as much this time. Maybe because I knew what to expect.

I don't have a lot of expectations with this Henna application, except that I am looking forward to seeing the grey hairs turn red. I finished applying it at 4:30 and I am hoping I can last until Midnight. I still have one package of Cassia left, but I'll save that for another day.
