Experiences with Henna?

Like Tree61Likes

foxycus02, the Cassia I used smelled and looked like Henna. Even when I mixed it. It also gave out a small bit of color, but barely enough to really make an impact on my hair.

dxwash, I don't think it makes a difference, but I might be wrong. I washed my hair the day before applying the Henna. I also Henna'd without washing my hair. Either way the results looked the same to me. I deep condition after applying the Henna because it makes my hair very dry.

I have a questions, do you co wash before you henna/cassia or wash with a sulfate free poo? I did my 3rd Cassia last nite. In the AM I washed my hair with a sulfate free poo. When I got home I co washed then applied the Cassia. I typically wash with a sulfate free poo before the cassia. My hair turned out so soft. Usually after the cassia my hair is silky yet wiry, not this time. could this be from co washing before hand and not with the poo or the compounding effect of Cassia? Any thoughts....

Plus, it saved time, as opposed to washing first & then applying. I would only recommend washing the hair first if you have a lot of buildup or use 'cones.

I think we should start a henna club for curlies lol. I am now a cassia addict and I havent even done it twice yet . I just ordered some in bulk this time and i cant wait. I liked henna but i really didnt like the smell and I'm not patient enough to wait that long. I think I'm gonna henna every few months and cassia in between. I'm interested in trying amla. Has anyone tried it? If so what were your results?

okay. I have cassia in my hair right now. OMG, where do I start. I let the cassia sit for about 15-30min. Umm, I followed the instructions on mixing and stuff and it LOOKED smooth but FELT like sandy glue, not like mud!!!! (it was kinda painful putting it on @ first) I didn't know that I could not comb this stuff through my hair AT ALL....unless I wanna rip my hair out!!! After I had trouble with the back I gradually caught on and just combed/detangled the hair in little 1in sections and applied the cassia as if I were doing paper mache. I'm glad I caught on cause I was gonna tell cassia to kiss my
I forgot to use gloves, but luckily it wasnt henna. However, after I washed my hands, I noticed a very slight (not noticeable to others) yellowing around my cuticles and underneath my nails. Did I mention that, in my opinion, the cassia SMELLED like a zillion crushed up green tea bags...like my green tea in the cabinet...that was odd.

-Is there anything I can do to make the cassia easier to apply to my hair that wont change my color?
-Should I rinse the cassia out w/ a cheapy VO5 conditioner or something?
-I bought some samples of the lavender and rose hair fragrances (powder mixes w/ water) from mehandi.com. Has anyone had luck with these to @ least neutralize the stench once the cassia has been rinsed out?

*sigh*...I have a slight headache from the plastic wrap round my head (screaming) ...gotta go loosen it AGAIN :P.....newayz, I'll keep everyone posted.
Good Lord.. you combed it thru? You are brave!
I scoop some in my glove and squish it through my hair. I grab hair and glop it on, making sure I get the ends.

I found Henna today at Harvest Coop Supermarket (similar to Whole Foods Market) at 57 South Street in Jamaica Plain. It was Rainbow Henna and came in three colors. I opened the container and it looked, smelled like real Henna. I didn't buy it because altho it did say it was 100% natural with no additives it came in red and black. It said that the color lasts 4-6 weeks. I might give the red a try, but I'm afraid I'll look like Lucille Ball LOL If I do try it I might go with this one $5.99. Please post your comments.

I dunno about the Rainbow henna stuff. CurlyNikki told me on 11/16 ..."Avoid store brands like Light Mountain and Rainbow. this stuff is called Compound henna and has hidden ingredients that can do your hair harm. "
I think people have used it though, but I know nothing about it as far as outcomes. It may work, but to me, it sounds kind of iffy since pure henna is supposed to be one color and only changes color if other things are added to it. My cassia order came with a booklet, and on page 6, theres is a chart or something that tells you how to make colors by mixing natural ingredients with the henna that wont harm the hair. It may als be n mehandi.com, but I'm not sure.
has anyone used AOHSR shampoo? While using it, my hair instantly became very rough and matted to the point that I couldn't even stick my fingers between my hair let alone run my fingers through it. Has anyone else experienced the same/similar with AOHSR shampoo? Did the AOHSR conditioner do the same?
Okay I see on www.mehndiskinart.com that they are having a sale. The Jamila BAQ2 is $1.95 per 100 gram box and the Cassia is $4.95 per 100 gram box. Is this a good place to buy from cause I really like the prices. The sale is for this week.
Well I just bought 2 100 gram boxes of the cassia , 2 100 gram boxes of the henna and 1 100 gram box of amla powder. Hope I made the right decision. I really want my hair to more shine, feel moisturized and have a smoother texture. I plan to do a few Baka Beautiful Natural-Laxers applications before I start the cassia and henna stuff.

Thank you. See I would like to try the Island one, but I feel like I've just wasted almost $10 on that other HSR shampoo. Maybe I'll buy that one in the future. For now, maybe I can mix some kind of consitioner with it. I don't know.
