Well, I have the henna in. So far so good, not as messy as I thought I'd be with it. Anyway, I'm going to leave this for about 7-8 hours (as if I'd slept in it). I know it takes a few treatments to see the benefits, so I'm not expecting a miracle. haha I ended up having a lot of henna left over, so I stuck that in the freezer. Will more than likely do this again in a week.

Kitara, did you order from that other website (mehndi...sp?)? If so, let me know how quickly you get it. It's time for me to re-order. Gracias

Soooo....I've washed out the henna and conditioning as I type this. As for my results, I definitely feel like it added some "strength" to my hair. I've lost like no hairs while rinsing/washing it out then applying conditioner and then detangling with a wide tooth comb. Losing no visible hairs through all of that is unheard of for me. haha I have so much hair, I shed like an animal. So I give it a thumbs up in that regard. My hair is mostly black...haven't dyed it in a while so my roots and other little spots in my hair have a little reddish/burgundy hue. I like it. I'd already decided no more permanent black dye, so I think henna will be what I use for color to transition the black off. I'm saying that now--don't be surprised if pop-in saying I've got some indigo too. haha Anyway, can't really tell if I've got any "relaxing" of my curl--and I'm not really expecting that this first go round. But I will say, the front section of my hair has no real curl/curl definition....but lo and behold, all of sudden I have some little crinkly curls in front. I was thinking I may have heat-damaged my bang area, but it may just be my texture. All I do know is that the henna seems to have brought some curls back!

Anyway, I look forward to doing this again in about a week. I'm going to do this a few more times before I will decided if this will become a permanent part of my regimen.

I have another one of my marathon treatments in. This is #7. Maybe my hair will finally turn purple!

The bag slipped off my widow's peak when I was sleeping and that part dried out, lol. I might have to touch that up later.
Wow! It took me 2 days to get through this thread, but it was well worth it! As soon as I get my Colorfix situation worked out (been using it to get the RC black dye outta my hair), I'll wait a coupla weeks then start on some test strands. I just purchased a 35g sample of Jamila so the hardest part will be waiting to use it!
Texture: Fine
Porosity: Low
Elasticity: Low
Density: Medium/High...I think

LOL Clarita, I still haven't gotten all the way through it. It's like a book. I put it away and pick back up where I left off.

And yes, the waiting stinks. I want my stuff here NOW!

I still don't think I have read this whole thing, and I sure have tried, lol.

Henna can be really awesome for bringing strength back after that type of situation.
Riot, since you're here I have a quick question for you. How much do you use? Your hair is a little longer than mine right? I thought I would need 200g, but then was thinking maybe that is too much?
Mine's longer but I think yours is thicker. The first time I went to try cassia I mixed 200g and couldn't fit even half of it on. Now I use 100g henna and it's just about right.

Most people find that the estimates on the sites that sell it are rather high. Some accuse them of doing that to boost sales, but I would rather simply think that it sucks a lot more to have too much than it does to run out halfway if your hair is very thick, especially with a mail order product.

Go ahead and mix it all, if you have extra you can freeze the pre-mixed and dye released henna and it gets even better and stronger when you thaw it out and use it.

I must admit, I have been very resistent in trying henna, but now I can't wait. I would love to get the results that I hear anyone is getting, (shine, less shedding, etc.). Within the past 24 hours, I have been deciding, should I go and buy the henna from a store or should I be patient and buy from Catherine. I've decided to be patient, but I have two questions:

Catherine recommends 200 mg for med to long length hair. If I want to buy in bulk and get 500 mg will it come in 100 mg increments or just one big bag. Question 2: I read that Henna is all the same, but on Catherine's website, there is henna for hair and henna for tattoes. Is there a difference?
Thanks
Catherine's henna will all come in 100g plastic or foil pouches, no matter how much you buy, I'm pretty sure. I bought 1 kilo of her Yemen and it's 10 plastic pouches.

This is a bit of a conundrum, as it seems the term "Body Art Quality" has taken on a life of its own, lol. When you see us throw that around, we generally mean it as "100% pure henna leaves with no additives, that are finely ground and sifted," and nothing more. Catherine does have separate "hair henna" which does fit this description, and you could safely do body art with it. But, I think she also grades it and saves the strongest dying henna for body art, because it is harder to dye skin than hair.

Good call on not using the step 3 Clarita!

I've been down that road and my hair was definitely weird at first, even without step 3. Before it dried, when the ColorFix was still active, it was like rubber bands. Whoa, I can stretch it 6 inches! It dried fairly normal, so try not to play with it when it's wet after rinsing out the ColorFix is my advice, lol.

The irony: I was removing red at the time. I know, it's a long story.

Off to rinse out henna #7!
Riotcrrl- yeah..my hair does feel kinda "weird" for a couple of days. I usually follow up with a deep treatment and then just wear it in a loose bun for a few days after.

Quick question for everyone. Does doing a cassia treatment, say, a week before henna affect the henna's results? I was thinking of using the cassia as sort of test run before I take the henna plunge.
Thanks!

I don't think cassia before henna would affect it. If you are happy with the cassia, you could always just keep doing that instead of putting such a strong dye as henna. But for me cassia was the "gateway drug" lol.
