Mojito Let me know Im excited to find out!! Im glad your henna turned out good Mine got here today I got punjabi prime, 500g. Unfortunately though I wont be able to use it until this friday If its supposed to sit though for 12 hrs...and I wont be able to put it on my head until friday after i get off work at 4pm, when should I mix it up? Like thursday night? Do you think it would be ok to sit for longer than 12 hrs?

Apparently if you are a homozygous G6PD deficient person (a hereditary enzyme deficiency, similar to sickle cell anemia and thalassemia) colorful urine is bad.

I searched this thread for colorful urine and didn't get any hits, so I guess I'm just the oddball

Spiral-nc,
I noticed that you haven't been on here in a while, so I hope you get my message soon. But my question to you is...
is there a henna for me to use as a good deep conditioning only? I recently dyed my hair and wish i didn't and want to grow it out. So i was just wondering if there was some that I can use as a deep conditioning only. If so, what kind, and where can I get it?

Curious. I have never used henna before. I have learned so far from all of the highly educated ladies of nc.com alot about henna. I am curious to know since i have jet black and some dark brown hair, I have heard if you leave the henna on long enough it could turn auburn. How long should I leave me henna on? and will it even get close to this color?
thanks so much sweetmx85!

me too that's why i am afraid to henna again. that whole strand test thing gets on my nerves. it's not like it's a 15 min box color! i'd rather just dive in then to have to wait 10 hours to see the color of the strand test and another 10 hrs to wait on my whole head if i still like it!

my hair color was a light sandy brown/blonde before i henna'd. my photobucket has come pics b4 henna if you want to see what i mean. henna will only make your hair darker or more vibrant red

Has anyone tried Red Rose?

Shake, subsequent hennas will continue to darken your hair. My hair is overall darker than before - it's burgundy. Some people just do the roots when they reach the color they like. But, then the rest of your hair wouldn't get the additional conditioning effect that way.

Incidentally, here are some observations from my henna treatments this time around: The first henna made my hair a tad frizzier. The second henna reduced the frizz and made my hair more defined. I just did my third henna two days ago, and the "doll hair effect" kicked in - it's very soft and smooth now. Last year when I hennaed, I think I only did four. So it will be interesting to see what it does for my hair beyond that.

Oh, and I used Red Zinger tea and just 1 tablespoon of ACV for 200 grams and got great dye release. I may eventually drop ACV altogether. And the Punjabi Prime is really smooth. Last time I was able to wash it all out with VO5 conditioner, no shampoo needed this time. Yippee!

Hey Spiral I love love love your hair, I remember reading at the begining of this thread about you using the ACV so I went and got some today, would it be ok do you think though If I didnt have the red zinger? Just used the ACV and honey? Do you let the dye sit and release? If so how long? I was going to do mine tonight, but I read a lil bit ago that someone was saying that they mix it up and put it straight on their head. Im so confused about what to do

(The henna ill be using is punjabi prime)

Aww thanks Sweetmx! When I started I was just using diluted ACV as my liquid for dye release, and honey to adjust the consistency after dye release and it worked fine. You don't have to use tea (and you don't have to use Red Zinger - you just need something mildly acidic). I'm just experimenting with switching to a milder, less stinky acid (ACV is a little stinky).

As for when to apply, everyone does it differently. I let my henna dye release for 12 hours (overnight or while I'm out and about). Then I apply it and leave it on for four to six hours. I just do it that way because I read that the coverage tends to be more even. But if the other way works for you - that's great too. As long as the results are what you want. I say experiment and see what you prefer.

I did like your instructions said on page 5 cause I hadnt seen this till just now, I had to let it sit about 20hrs though...I didnt even realize that till about 15 min ago that it was that long, I hope that doesnt hinder the effects..I have some left over though and I dont know what to do with it. I put a topic on hennaforhair but no one has replied yet and im sure that its not goo for it to just be sitting here. I put a hat on my head too after I wrapped it so ill let it sit for 6 hrs. Im so excited to see the results Thanks for my henna inspiration

Well Ladies, I finally, after months of watching/reading this thread, did my first hendigo! I used the Punjabi Prime henna (200) and indigo (100). I only used ACV to release dye for about 14 hours or so and mixed indigo with water before adding to the henna mixture. Of course, the vinegar smell is strong, but I could handle it. I had my Honey put it on my hair as I wanted to get the roots good the first time around. I wrapped it in a plastic bag for about 6 - 7 hours. It rinsed out fairly easy and thanks to Spiral NC I had some VO5 Conditioner on hand. Afterward, I did a deep condition over night. The next day my hair was deep and rich and I love the color. It is much darker than what I started with as some of my highlights had gotten almost platinum. My roots are a dark brown and my hightlighted areas are a beautiful deep cherry. When I asked my boyfriend to describe the color, he said it looks like a black cherry. It isn't black, but the dark is so rich and the mix of deep red is wonderful. I think my hair dried a bit frizzy, so next time I will use tea only. I will not use the indigo next time. I'm gonna have to order more henna as I think I will use that only from now on especially since Spiral mentioned it makes your hair darker. Maybe if I use the red only over my hendigo, it will continue to look rich. I don't want to end up with black. I'm so glad I finally did it. My boyfriend and I made it a hair night. He put the hendigo on mine and while I marinated, I twisted his hair. I didn't get an opportunity to take pics............I know, I know. I really wish I could show you all what I'm talking about with the color. Anyway, I am traveling for work until just before Christmas. By then, I will henna once or twice again. I will keep you all posted. Just know I'm glad I did it!

Alright ladies, so I have seen this post for a while now. I decided not to really look at it because it seemed really overwhelming. I decided to take a look at it today because I wanted to find some Fotki's to stalk. LOL Just telling the truth. Anyway, I have read a couple of pages and I am curious about henna but I have a few questions and this thread is a bit overwhelming. Alright I have decided that if I was going to buy the Henna I was going to take the advice in the earlier part of the thread and go with Mehandi.com. I went to this website and read the ebook and it was very informative. Here are my questions or concerns.

1. Is there henna on Mehandi that will not dye my hair? I like my hair color right now and don't want to dye it as of yet.

2. Will the Henna loosen my curls? My hair is very short right now and I don't really want my curls to loosen.

3. Cassia- is that a glosser and can anyone direct me or tell me a little bit more about it?

4. Besides coloring the hair does henna make your hair stronger less prone to breakage?

That's just about it. Thank you so much for your time. I think I should take my butt to bed now. LOL

I'm learning so much from you naturally curly ladies. Thanks so much.
I now know why everyone was saying that after you rinse it out your already thinking when can i do it again!! I was not expecting this, my hair is dark brown naturally so I was not expecting any sort of color change, but I got one! Well a slight one. Its a mahogony type color, like a deep reddish maroonish type color, its very pretty, as far as conditioning, I really cant tell to much a dif right now but im so tired and its still wet. So far all I see is the tint to it in the light. Thats enough for me for now, I wanna do it again though, I really want to do it again tomorrow night. Im not sure if thats ok to do though? Punjabi Prime was a success. 100g but I only needed about 50-60. I used spirals method on page 5. Love the results!! If I had a camera I could show you all Ill try to come up with some pics tomorrow on my cell. ciao bellas.

Hellooooooooo Hennaheads!

I haven't posted on NC in a while but I peek in here every now and then. I'll update my fotki soon so you all can see what craziness I've been up to.

After I spent all summer dying the previously henna'd daylights out of my hair....

It eventually started to break off. I have some pretty resillient hair ya'll... I'm talking I once dyed it black...decided it was too dark...colorfixed(chemically undyed) it out...only to re-dye it black again 2 days later.

And that was after my various shades of blonde-brown-red-orange.

Crazy.

When I started seeing breakage I went straight to aphogee cause thats what i used as a permee.

It sort of worked for a while but eventually stopped leaving me still with broken curls everywhere.

I trimmed...scratch that.. CUT my hair like every 2 weeks but the damage was so current it was pointless. I would have needed to cut it down to about an inch.

I decided to try one last thing before I completely BC'd back to square one...
HENNA

My little Indian store stopped carrying the brand I adored but I found a good substitute for 2.49/ 100gm instead of 1.99 though. I guess this economic crisis really is affecting EVERYONE lol

After one more good trim...I henna'd last week and my hair is back to amazing. I haven't seen a single broken coil, it's shiny, super soft and thanks to my alma powder...its a dark brown-red I can live with.

Henna Sunday's are back in full effect! I'll never leave it again
