Help!

I have 3c/4a hair type and I have no clue what to do with it. It is short so there is nothing much to do. I twist my hair every sunday after I wash my hair but it takes atleast 5 to 8 hours to do it. Sometimes wish that my hair was straight but my parents won't let me relax it. I am thinking about using a Texturizer however I am scared of my hair falling out due to the fact that my hair is permanently colores. I also do not know exactly how a texturizer works and what it does to the hair. I am in desperate need of hair ideas and tips. Help!
Hi,

I think your parents definitely have your best interest at heart. The texturizer is just a lighter form of a relaxer but it have the same negative effects.

What products are you using to wash and style your hair? Your hair can't be too short if you can twist it. Have you ever worn a twist-out or a braid-out? That is just untwisting and unbraiding your hair or just wear it in a twa (teeny weeny afro). It just might be you need to find the right products to use in your hair to make styling easier. We are here to help .

ETA.....I just looked at your pic, your hair isn't short at all. That style is cute, so what's the problem?

yes. I tried wearing my hair out after washing but when it is wet it shrinks to the point where it looks VERY short. I don't like that.

I see that you are also on the 3c board, maybe one of their suggestions can help a little. The easiest thing though is to just accept the shrinkage, I know you want your curls to stretch but the most important thing is that your hair is healthy and strong .

someone tols me to try using Miss Jessie's products but I am not too sure about that? Now about help finding hair styles do you have any suggestions? Below is a pic of me and my hair:

Here is a closer Look:

People say that it reminds them of Kelis's hair lol:

I always wanted hair like my sister's however her curls are looser. She inherited hair from my Hispanic side of the family unlike me. Below she has Twists in:

What does your hair look like?
Both you and your sister have beautiful hair. You just have to love your hair and not want it to be like anyone else's. You can click on my www to see a few pics of my hair. I need to update my album, I haven't taken any new pics since March I think.

You just have to experiment. Miss Jessie's products are expensive but being that you are in Bklyn you won't have to pay for shipping, so that's good. The Curly Pudding and the Merengue is $28 and the Buttercreme is $48. You can check it out on their website at Curve Salon. I used the CP once, it was ok, it does make your hair kind of hard though. I will use it again when my hair is a little longer.

Do you get your hair cornbraided at all? Cornrows going back and then leave hair out for a puff or cornrowed all the way and add beads ( nice beads, not the kind your mom probably used when you were young...lol).

You apply CP on to freshly washed wet hair ( you should have a spray bottle filled with water to re-wet the hair if it starts to get dry). After applying a generous amount of the CP, you comb it through your hair (section by section)with a wide tooth comb, this is called shingling. You then sit under a hood dryer for about an hour. Then after your hair is completely dry you can use a blowdryer to try asnd stretch the curl out. There are instructions with pics on the website to get a better understanding. Because you use so much of the CP when it dries it can leave the hair kind of hard but the style lasts, I kept it for a week and rinsing kinda reactivates the CP.

You could also try strawsets or rollersets. In the beginning I used to hate shrinkage with a passion but now I've learned to accept it and work with it instead of against it.
"It moisturizes my situation... preserves my sexy."
I feel ya! Please see the post I posted earlier this evening."Is it just me or are other 4a/3c girls doing this too."
I hope it helps.
Dense kinky-curly; healthy and growing strong!
