Default Have Others Gone Natural Because Of You?

Now that I'm natural, a friend of mine is going natural too! I'm so happy. She gets it easy because I tell her all the things to do and not do.

No, not yet. My cousin keeps praising my hair everytime I go home though. She asks me details about how I do my hair.

She's an older cousin. She put my first perm in my hair, so she remembers the texture.

She may decide to take the plunge. I'd be happy if she did!

I had gone natural back i n1994 and since that time legions of people have decided to cross over (well maybe not legions but you get the idea - LOL). Anywho, from my mom, aunt, and cousin to some of my good girlfriends - all have embraced natural hair and it is a beautiful thing!

Yup yup yup!

My sister and I both went natural in 2000. I got fed up with the lack of resources and reneged with a relaxer in Oct 2001. She is a 4b and was disappointed with the lack of curl definition. I continued getting my hair texturized until December 04 and then transitioned to my current point.

Anyways (got way from the subject!), my sister is still natural and has SisterLocks, which are VERY tiny locs that almost look like hair! VERY cute. My mother has also crossed over but she is still wearing braids and extensions to transition (I think she's afraid to come out of the curly closet)

I'm glad there are more resources now! It definitely makes turning people to the "darkside" ( ) easier!

My mom went natural after I did. However, she continues to press her hair regularly and only wear twists when she's on vacation (i.e. not at work). Her reasoning is the she works with some ignorant people and doesn't want to have deal with their comments. So now I have to work on her accepting her hair all the time...LOL At least she's natural though.

Just one of my co-workers. I have to hear her daily complain, my hair is too nappy, I need a haircut. She sits behind me and comments on my hair, then hers. I try to send her affirmations (your hair is pretty, you should let it grow). But the whining continues...oh well!

One of my close friends. I did small twists to compensate when she was growing out the perm. She did the BC right when she went home this summer! I am Sooo proud of her!
Other friends with african hair keep refering to theirs and "bad and nappy" and say that my nappy looks good but theirs doesnt. Whats up with that??? :x

One of my friends went natural....kind of.

She cut out the relaxer but then she put a texturiser in her hair and went around telling people "my hair has a looser curl than most black people's hair."

A very strange experience.

Default for real

For real, people. :? How can we bring ourselves to truly be happy if we're not ok with who we are, with our roots, and the legacy of our ancesters? Why does the bitter history of racism bite us so hard even long after slavery was "abolished"?
Do people of today still represent a mixed group of slaves, servants, self-beguiled, and other even more complex groups? Is this merely a function of ignorance? How do we end this social slavery we find even ourselves being a part of?

Maybe I dont mean to sound like an extreme dissenter, but maybe we really should be. Can we be not actively be part of the solution without being part of the problem? Should we dare to form an even more active part of the small group of determined people of which Margaret Mead spoke?
