No Poo and styling Products

I've been thinking of going no poo. But I was wondering, can you no use styling products, say like Rocking Ringlets or Confidents Coils, and still no poo? Or will the styling product sit on my hair?

I use a curling cream regularly but I still do conditioner washes. Also I do shampoo my hair once in a while if it looks necessary. Through all of this my hair has turned out very well.

Well the only styling products you cant use are ones that contain non water soluble silicones because these wont rinse out with plain water. I think it depends what you use to CON wash It feels like No poo really has a cleansing agent because my hair feels real light and clean whenever I use it w/o the rough feel shampoos leave behind. Other than that some people use baking soda water mixture or a lemon water mixture to cut the build up if you have any.
Thanks Guys. I've been no pooing for the past week, but I've been afraid to use any styling products. I only have IC Gel with Sparkelites, and I don't know if that's safe. I'll probably try Rocking Ringlets soon or just restock on my Greg Juice (which has a little hold) and Whipped pudding).

What kind of conditioner do you ladies wash with? I've been using V05, and it does get my hair clean. I was suprised!

DevaCurl and Jessicurl products are all compatible (pretty much) with the CG routine. Some DevaCurl products contain cones, but they are in small amounts, and if you use low-poo, you can remove them.

I use a couple of different conditioners for my washes. I use
Suave brands and I also use Sally's Salon Care. Both have been treating my hair very well.

Cheleski love are you no pooing right. So far I have gone two weeks and I havent even no -pooed just rinsed and applied conditioener my scalp is clean as can be. I only got the itchies when I was using curly pudding.
Theres a difference between no-pooing and rinsing your hair w water and adding conditioner. You no poo to clean. So that means taking little bits of conditioner and just rubbing it on the scalp and using that movement to cleanse. After youve covered your scalp, apply conditioner to the ends and massage in circular motions all over. Also once in a while, I do an exfoliating scrub where you mix brown sugar and conditioner and perform the same action to your scalp.
On no poo days, youre supposed to rinse your hair with water and apply conditioner, thats just giving your hair a shot of moisture not cleaning.
I'm confused. I thought no pooing refered to the practice of using conditioner to wash your hair rather than shampoo. If you wet your hair and apply conditioner, isn't that just conditioning?

I have been lazy lately, I need to buy a cheapie condish to no poo. Lately I have been using One condish twice. I need to try the VO5 or I may just go to Suave Citrus Smoothie.

But to answer you original question, you can definitely use other products. I think the greg juice and the whipped pudding are great choices since they dont have any of the cones, or mineral oils and petrolatum that can build up in the hair. And if you do use the the IC with Sparkelites the cone in it is water soluble so no pooing should be fine. If anything you can always do an ACV rinse.
I have kinks, coils and curls on this head.

Wow. Thanks Blaqpearl! I didn't know that IC Gel w/ Sparkelites is water soluble. I liked it on my hair, but I couldn't see leaving it in for 5 days straight until I could shampoo again. And shampooing frequently ( like every time I use a styling product) just dries my hair out. Thanks for your feedback everyone. I Feel like I have a couple options now.

When I started my transition, I tried no-poo but because of the relaxed ends, I still used shampoo a couple times a month. My hair just didn't feel clean. Now that I'm completely natural (since 5/28/05), all I don't use shampoo at all and my hair feels fantastic. I con wash my hair daily with Suave Tropical Coconut and then use Curling Custard (my only styling product). My hair is super moisturized and always feels clean. That was my main concern, Spiral -- would my hair actually get clean with just conditioner. I'm happy to say that it does. I absolutely love it!

Hey, just fyi, the Curly Pudding is not cg friendly; it contains proteins that need shampoo to remove.

I've been doing the cg (no-poo) method for about a year, and I think my hair has been doing fantastically on it. In fact, since I cut out the last bit of texturized hair, I've had no split ends whatsoever. This definitely wasn't the case with even the mildest of shampoos.

I try to persuade every person I know to get on it, I know I get on everyone's nerves.

Extended scalp massage is definitely essential to effective cleansing on no-poo. 2-5 minutes of rubbing.
