I'm Bunnin' It...a grow-out challenge of sorts :)

i'm back to the basics after my fun experience with a twist and curl and the pocahontas. i went to target to find the elastics SBB used in her flexi8 pic. i nearly lost my mind on the accessories aisle. but i bought about 20 goody small elastic headbands and some scrunchies for a more refined "sock" bun.

i recall people were concerned about cotton scrunchies. i dampened mine so it won't absorb too much moisture from my hair, and it works fine. mine came in a six pack, so i'll rotate scrunchies to give them time to dry in between uses.

on other news, i found a picture from two months ago that was at a similar angle to the one i took a few days ago. it grew about an inch. with the challenge, i'm sure i'll retain an extra inch come september. excluding shrinkage, i might be APL by the end of the year... who woulda thunk it...lol

Weekly Cleansers: Co-Wash - Suave Coconut or Yes to Cucumbers and Trader Joe's Nourish Spa. Giovanni 50-50 poo on scalp only.
Moisturizers: Mix of Giovanni Direct with AO Honey Suckle; KCKT; Jamaican Castor Oil, water.

First week went well, and I even did six days up because it was easier for me to be lazy and not go redo my hair.

Wore it down today and enjoyed it. Back up tomorrow...
Kiva! Microfinance works.

Med/Coarse, porous curly.
so since I've always worn a bun, and for the first two weeks of the challenge I had a reg bun and then a twist bun, I decided to braid my hair (just had it done ) 2 hrs I must be crazy...anyway I will have a braided bun this week

i know i'm late and all but i'd like to join too! when i was in undergrad and had no time for my hair, i bunned it practically everyday and my hair grew so much. i didn't even notice because i hadn't straightened it in a long time and because i was too busy too care. i didn't have the best products or methods of handling my hair, but i think the low manipulation made up for all that. i'm trying to imagine how much more my hair will thrive now that i'm using better products and hair care techniques!

i'm also excited about how much time i'm going to save in the mornings with this challenge...
yay!

Hi, I'm new to the board. If it's not too late I would luv to join... not sure if I have enough hair for a bun but I will try. If not I will experiment with other updos. My hair has been breaking off like crazy in the past year. I think I didn't keep the color moisturized enough.

Anyone can join the challenge at any time.

I flat ironed my hair yesterday because I got tired of wet hair. Plus I like feeling my hair on my back LOL I put it up in a ponytail and went out for a walk. I just got tired of the constant products, manipulation and shrinkage so this will work for now. I'm sure I'll get sick of it by Wednesday and wet my hair again.

Etsy.com has a bunch of funky headbands. I've ordered from a few sellers through them before and I didn't have any problems with delivery or payment (through paypal)

Hi ladies I'm back from STL!!! I tried on my wedding dress (and saw it for the first time in person...lol) and it's perfect!!!

I wore a twist-n-curl for the weekend and I'm about to bun it back up now. My t-n-curl went over really well at home and everyone agreed that it is definitely the hair to wear at the wedding I also learned that the florist will make my hair clips for me I'm going to do an ivory colored rose for the wedding and a tropical orange colored lilly for the reception

I wish I didn't have to bun (I loved wearing it out this weekend), but I know the end result will totally be worth it.

NATAKUE!!!!!!!! Welcome to the challenge chica It's good to see you in here!

Hey guys, I got bored with my hair so last night after I detangled I putin flexirods. Of course I woke up this morning and after a horrible nights sleep, it still wasnt dry! It was very pretty though, but my camera is acting right anc the pics are turing out weird. Its going back in the bun either tomorrow or wednesday. This was the first time I wore it out in awhile, wish it wasnt on a monday! Ive alternated between twists and buns, and after the twist no twist out. The result is a much faster detangling session!

Oh, and thank you so much hola_lo2002! I cut my hair from waist length to my ears about four years ago and have been growing it with few trims in between ever since. I try to take care of it, be gentle, wear it up often, and only use heat maybe once or twice a year in order to get it where id like it to be. My hair has always grown kinda fast, but I think really taking care of it has helped me retain the length I get. HTH!

natashamck, those headbands are too cute. too bad i can't wear them to work. boo...

mothereartha,
thanks, josephine baker is beautiful so that's a major compliment! thanks! and yea, a lot of my friends are telling me to quit bugging out because everything happens in it's due time. every once in a while i have to remind myself to calm the heck down and let things be.

curlynikki,
girl you are killing those buns! i checked out your album and fell in love. so i had to join when i found out it was a challenge. i really need to try your twist-n-curl but i gotta take it slow when starting up again, haha! otherwise my inner pj might escape from the cage i have it locked away in. i am so excited about your upcoming wedding and can't wait to see your hairstyle on your special day!

as for me, i bought some supplies for my buns, namely headbands and knee-hi's that i'm gonna cut and use instead of a scrunchie since i can't find any satin ones now that i need one...hmpf! i also busted out some of my older hair products from my stash at my mom's place (hehehe), like s-curl, cactus leave-in and various samples that i can use to keep my hair moisturized while it's tucked away. yay!

Quick question for those ladies who work out. Do you wash and re-bun your hair everyday? I've been working out and I have to at least rinse my hair. When I work out I sweat alot...I mean ALOT!...so I can't hold off rinsing. Do you think this will effect the growth? Do you have any tips on maintaining the 'do while working out? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I just started wearing a bun this week, so I'll have to wait and see how long I can go without rinsing my hair. I taught yesterday, and when I took my shower afterwards, I just took my hair out of the bun. I didn't rinse it, but it did get a little wet.

I guess I'll just have to listen to my scalp If I end up co-washing every day like I have been that'll probably defeat the purpose of wearing a bun.

natashamck- I tried to go one day without rinsing and I woke up in the middle of the night because my scalp is so itchy. I'm trying really hard not to disturb the bun but its killing me. I'm listening to my scalp and its saying, " WASH ME!!" hee-hee
