It gets worse.my aunt told me my cousin texturized her four year old too. My aunt said she has been putting Glovers Mane where the too textures meet to keep it from breaking. I hope it works. Before I left town I picked up some products I could find in that small town. And Thing is my cuz'shair is badly broken so Id think she wouldnt want to damage their hair. I really had to bite my tongue because I am completely against using chemicals on children.
But since the deed is done Im looking for advice on caring for texturized hair.

But what do we expect when people like myself were relaxed so early we dont remember our natural hair then we have to care for our children's hair in ignorance.

I got my first at 10 also. But it was never born straight and I did it so braiding and ponytails would be easier. Not so I can wear it down. I wore braids on the regular until senior yr of hs and I got it permed straight. Which I regret because it broke off. If I had kept my hair semirelaxed like it was I would still have a relaxer to this day.

Luv'd my permed hair I just didnt take care of it.
LUVVV my natural hair!!!
I have always had straight strands in between my curls. Not sections like some people but in between. i used to cut them in my wash and go days because the hung longer. Stop bothering me as much when I started stretched styles but now on my nerves again. I have this straight hair right up front im tempted to cut.

Today I am rocking conditioner and oil only styling. My hair feels soft and wonderful. I wish I could get away with it all year long. I hate crunch.

I did a mayo treatment for the first time in years. I don't care who says this is not a protein treatment this stuff reacted as protein in my hair kind of stiff and hard. I had to follow with a moisture dc to get my softness back. Idon't remember my hair reacting that way before. I think I have become more sensitive over time.

I don't like when people call my hair "fragile" or suggest that it "breaks easily" and "has less natural protection". *sigh.* My hair survived being relaxed for the past 16 years (I'm 23 by the way), it survived my clumsy attempts to kill it stone dead with a flat-iron during university, it survived transitioning and my constant obsession with pulling/measuring/twisting/attacking it for 17 months, it survived being left in a shrunken 'fro when I finally big chopped because I was "in love with the texture", and it survived a madwoman in Jamaica with a fine toothed comb and an odd glint in her eye during a rope-twist installation. My hair is *Not* fragile. It's as strong as I am, so you can take your 'fragile' and your 'less natural protection' and shove it up yer arse thanks.

I just wanted to get that off my chest. Nice to meet everyone!

Any body ever experience the "possessive stylist"? You know, the kind that doesnt want you to even touch your own hair because they feel they only have a right to touch it. Ive been in the salon before and the stylist was telling a patron " you shouldnt wash your own hair" it just sounded so funny I couldnt believe it. How can someone tell another person not to touch a part of their body? Lol

I would say that my hair is fragile & always have been even when I was relaxed. There were plenty of times I fried my hair with the flat iron when I was permed. One time during my transition. Yes I have to be careful when detangling my hair & styling in general. I would agree with those who say that type 4 hair is fragile.

I would go home and comb it out.

Yeah. I rarely go in to the salon because I almost never wear my hair straight. When I do they always try to make me get layers. I say no thanks evrytime.

I bought an universal comb attachment for my hair dryer at Sallys. Decided to try blowout for the first time mostly because Im sick of how long it takes my my hair to dry. I know air drying is best but my hair takes an entire day and I think going to bed with wet hair sucks on my ends. Usually I do hooded dryer but decided to give blowout a shot
I hadnt done this in five years natural and rarely blow dried relaxed. At first it was rough. The girl on yt only detangled with wide tooth comb but I realized quickly that wasnt enough to go directly to comb attachment. I had to use denman then later a medium tooth comb. Easier after that. My dryer has cold warm hot and high low. I experimented with the all. The cold was okay until I realized my hair wasnt getting as dry as I would like. The hot and high dried my hair in no time. Actually I was surprised to realize how straight my my hair was with this setting. I didnt know could get my hair straight without a flat iron if I did flat iron it would be easily one pass. But not interested in straight hair so I settled on warm high. I feel lke I was able to see the condition of my ends better. I cut an inch in one area. The summer was rough on my ability to maintain moisture. I used a heat protectant oil along with two kinds of li. My hair feels nice and soft. I'm thinking maybe this a good thing for my hair. I did notice at times in the past a little heat from tension method from blow dryer helped reduced ssk. But tension doesn 't dry my hair quickly.

Questions
1. Anyone know what is the usual temp for a blowdyer at warm setting?
2. Would once a week be too often to blow dry?

Im so excited knowing I washed tonight but won't wake up with wet hair.

I braided up my hair last night and went to bed. I notice both the sections where I used cool and warm are dry. But warm is more elongated. I think I will stick to cool mostly because if I can get dry with less heat that's cool. Do you need heat protection for cool? I'm Having seconds thoughts about once a week.

The blowdryer comb love affair fizzled. I had hoped doing this would allow me to go longer without washing. Uh no. I still had to cowash after three days. Ya girl isn't doing all that more than once a week.

I feel like I've manipulated my hair too much this week! (Twists, twistout, perm rods and a curly do) so I gave it a SUPER overnight wash day.

I cleansed with As I Am Cleansing Pudding

Cowashed with Tresemme Naturals Nourishing Moisture

Baggy Deep Conditioned with Giovanni Deeper Moisture but it's still in so Im going to sleep with it.

Tomorrow I will leave in Oyin Handmade Honey Hemp conditioner, use Sheamoisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie and Curling Gel Soufflé and seal with coconut oil for a wash and go.

Gonna give this hair some freedom.

Tresemme Naturals conditioner has me sold. Detangled my hair like butter, glad I got six bottles from Walgreens on sale

I can only imagine what the old formula could do...tried to find it and I can't! I got the new one and it's GREAT so this old one must be the ****!!!!!

Shea Moisture Deep Cleansing Shampoo is better for my scalp than Shea Moisture Moisture Retention Shampoo. My scalp feeld tingly and fresh.

I'm glad started conditioner finger-detangling again. Oil simply does not cut it.

I'm getting the hang of deep conditioning after shampooing. I've been DCing with coconut oil + Shea Moisture Purification Masque or Aubrey White Camelia Ultra-Smoothing Conditioner for 30 minutes with heat under the hooded dryer. I think I could get used to this.
