Which Is Better(for your hair) Curl Activator or Gel

I have been using Fantasia IC Gel, it makes my hair look great(when it's in good condition), but I tend to be heavy handed with it, and I'm wondering if it's contributing to my dry hair phase.

If you are a CG that prefers activator to gel, which do you prefer. I tend to lean toward products with the least amount of "stuff" in them.
ACV Rinse 2-3 times a week
Nature's Gate Biotin Conditioner
Curly Kinks: Satin Root, Coil Jam
Castor oil on scalp
A gel by itself is not moisturizing, unless it's flaxeed gel (an oily glaze) or maybe aloe vera gel. Fantasia has these 2 ingredents - Dimethicone Copolyol, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein -- that may be causing problems.

I'm not a curl activator fan. I like conditioners left in and gels.

Playing with my hair is a hobby. Fluffy, fine natural 4a. Goal= Healthy, beautiful hair that retains its length.
Hear that crash? It's me falling off the CG wagon.

Akilamonique,

I believe you inspired me to try Fantasia IC. l liked it until I used 80% of the jar (mostly to slick down my hair while bunning) and realized it was building up on my hair and drying out. Towards the end I started mixing the gel with almond or avocado oil, but it still builds up. I'm afraid my first jar is my last. My initial concern with the ingredients won out. I've started using Aubrey's gel; so far, so good. The curl activator gel is mostly glycerin. I have a jar and used it primarily when I was trying out my wash-n-go. I will also use it to clump up my temple hairs. So I can't make a true apples to apples comparison.

On a side note - I can't believe we lost Bernie and Isaac in the same weekend.

Sealers: My whipped raw shea butter/oil blend.
Scalp Oil: Jojoba, Rosemary, Horsetail, Burdock Root, Aloe Vera Gel
Hairstyle: Protective.

Henndigo occasionally.

I know,I was so surprised with Bernie Mac, at one point they said he was suppose to be leaving the hospital, and then out of the blue Isaac today!

Also, I'm not much of a fan of the curl activator gels. They leave my hair kind of dull and fluffy, don't provide any real definition. I actually get the best definition and shine from leaving in my Elucence and adding Jessicurl WDT (and sometimes Devacurl Set It Free) on top.

IC Fantasia causes a lot of shrinkage and also dries out my hair. I thought I couldn't old moisture but after trying the Hollywood Beauty Carrot Creme moisturizer I now know I can hold some shine.

IC Leaves my curls well defined but crunchy

I would think that curl activator is best for keeping hair moisterized but it too can have drying effects. I use a clear gel but not on occassion and I no longer use an activator...

I have decided that Care Free Curl Is Not My Friend. I only used it twice, but it has given me a headache both times. The smell is just too much for me to handle. Plus I'm beginning to think I might be protein sensitive, and that I need to stick with all natural products. So, once I get to CT(I hope my Oyin is waiting for me) I'm going to clarify with shampoo(I never use shampoo) get all of the leftover product out of my hair and start from scratch with the Oyin. I bought the whipped butter, and the honey hemp condish. I'm just going to do as little to my hair as possible, and put as little in it as possible, and make sure the things I put in it will provide tons of moisture.
My flight leaves in a couple of hours and I have to give my son a bath, so I better get going!!!
