when being ghetto is good
This is admittedly ghetto but I have a long mass transit commute in the am which includes a 30 min ferry ride. To save time I wear a scarf/ hat to the ferry and do my hair (fully) in the ladies room (some actually have seats). As women parade in and out I am shamelessly taking down twists, sealing my ends pinning, scrunching, spraying my hair for hold. You'd think I was in my home bedroom, lol, with all that. It is a 25 min production (but adds to my sleep time and I'm never late this way).
But it has served an educational purpose. 1 woman approached me yesterday thrilled to see me again so that she could get the goods on all the products I was using and what my regimen was and to praise my hair (it's length, curl pattern, healthy natural look). She actually took my picture ! Of course I let her know all about NC.com. So it seems my ghetto hair routine was inspirational to another curly

That is sooo funny. I had just finished swimming at the Ritz and had to go in the ladies room to do my hair. Fortunately no one walked in. I like when they have the stalls with its own separate sink in them for privacy. Don't they know people have to do their hair!

I don't think its ghetto. It's smart! I'd much rather do my hair on the way to work if it meant I could sleep longer. I think this is why I pull it back so much. Sleep is just too good to miss out on.

lol! This reminds me of when I'm running late and duck into the restroom on my Metrolink train into Downtown Los Angeles. I use the sink and mirror to finish up my hair. I rush through it just in case someone wants in--its just one toilet and one sink to a train car. Do you take the Staten Island Ferry? You sound like you make good use of your commuting time!! This is not ghetto just resourceful!

This is not ghetto...it's genius! I have a 7-month old daughter, so sleep is very precious to me nowadays. Hey, maybe you can give some bathroom visitors a tutorial on doing natural hair.

Let me tell you - there ain't nooo privacy on the ferry bathroom.
Kookycurl and Candy72: There's hardly anything I wouldn't do for extra sleep.
Watch out for my youtube special: Natural Hair, the Ferry and Me (kidding)
Diamond: I use to duck it into Starbucks after I got off the ferry but then I would rush my hair because people were waiting. Yup, it's the good ole Staten Island ( Working Girl w/ Melanie Griffifth) Ferry.

I don't think this is ghetto either. Anything that could give me a few more minutes of sleep must be sheer brilliance.

I don't think it's ghetto, I think it's a very efficient use of your time. I would love to dry my hair in my car.

I live on the west coast (san francisco bay area) and I have dried my hair in the car. I can imagine what I must look like( with my clips in and the heater blowing on me full blast) ...lol

i used to do that ALL the time! it worked much better when my drive to work was 30 minutes than when i only had to drive 5 minutes. but at least the 5 minute car hair drying got rid of the drippies.
several years ago i went out with friends to a new years eve party at some club. silly me straightened my hair (and used nothing for hold) so 5 minutes after walking in i looked a hot mess. i was like, screw it and went into the full ladies room and stuck my head under the faucet. i was the only one in the entire place who didnt have a relaxer so everyone looked at me like followed by . i blotted it with some paper towels and went back on the dance floor looking all cute and curly!

So I told my mom the story and she looked at me like . I promptly told her that my homies at NC.com have pronounced me a "genius, smart, resourceful, brilliant and an efficient time manager". She basically said she will pretend not to know me if she sees me in the bathroom.
Loved your story subbrock! Work them curls

LMAO So this is me by the way taking a plane to Arizona. I run into the bathroom before my flight takes off, take everything off and my hair is so fly may I add and I don't know if anybody saw me but they must've thought it was a different person, same clothes ahahaha
Subrock I love that story!!! Amaralice, I can't believe you let her take your picture! Ahahaha was she AA too?

Sounds Ghetto To Me....
Ok, I'm going to be bold and say that it sounds ghetto to me because doing your hair in public is..."ghetto". LOL just joking, I just wish I had the courage or the nerves but even if I did, I don't think I would get away with it living in the Washington DC area. I take a commuter bus from Virginia to DC...need I say more.
