Any Inexpensive Alternatives to Kinky Curly Curling Custard?

Afrikurl,

Let me know how this works for you. I would love to find a $5 product that would replace KCCC.

Thanks so much for the YouTube post. I think I was using way too much KCCC and not enough leave in. I am going to try this tomorrow morning. I will let you know how it works out

For those of you who love KCCC how are you using it. I have tried it and it was not working out for me. It gave me the jeri curl look and took 4ever to dry. I placed the Knot today under it and everything.

I don't necessarily find the NT cost effect but the CC is as it last forever for me. I just finished my first jar of CC, which lasted 4 months.

You don't need to use a lot of it and I get 2nd, 3rd, and 4th day hair from it. I could get up to 7 day hair if I wanted but I like to cowash before then. The only time I've had it take forever to dry was the 2nd time I used it when I somehow used a ton of it on my hair. Otherwise, it takes no longer to dry than any other product I've used.

I know she just raised her prices and unless I find an alternative, I'll probably continue to use it. My bigger fear is not being able to find it in stock anywhere when I need it as I know she constantly has issues with keeping it in stock and that more than anything is the reason I keep looking for an alternative.

For the most part, I apply as in CoilsKinksCurls video.

I am having a great hair day. It looks a lot longer than normal and curls are popping every where. Based on the video I realized I was not using enough leave and was not raking it through my hair enough. I will keep using this technique. It saves a lot of KCCC. I use the GDLI up under it and I love the results.

rosscd, hope it works for you.

Hope you find a solution!
sad story---I LOST my brand new jar of KCCC and was too salty to rebuy... but I read on a forum that EcoStyler is a good alternative. For the same size it costs $1.50---um YES PLEASE! Worked great, looked great, felt great, dries quicker (ok, fine it didn't really dry, but my hair never does...I guess it was DRIER). I DO want to try KCCC again, when I can work up the nerve, but I was really pleased with the EcoStyler

For my kids, KC Spiral Spritz works the same as KCCC. Exactly the same. The scent is not grand.

Kiss My Face Upper Management worked just like KCCC in terms of curl definition, but didn't provide as much hold as I like--still solid. If you have something cheap to provide hold or don't need a lot of hold and can pair it with KMF Upper, even better.

AO Mandarin Magic is great at the curl definition but hold is not enough. So, if you have something cheap to provide hold and can pair it with AO MM, then great.

AfroVeda PUR Whipped Gelly gives me better results than KCCC; my hair is softer and there's less shrinkage.

Sorry...but nothing makes my hair look as soft, defined, pretty and moisturized as KCCC!

Also I'm anti Shipping and Handling and I can get KCCC from a walking distance from my house!

For me, the hold is better b/c I could never get 2nd day hair with KCCC which made it a waste of money. When I tried to layer KCCC, I had shrinkage. I've never used a gel like DMMM. If I put my hair in a ponytail damp with DMMM in it, when I take it down, my roots are straight! That's how much it elongates my hair. It does take a long time to dry, but not as long as KCCC.

Honestly, porous hair just takes a long time to dry. The only way I can get away from that is if I apply my oil or butter, wait for it to dry completely, then wet and apply my styler. DMMM is cheaper, looks better on my hair, and I dont find clumps of it in my hair like I did with KCCC. Looking back, I really only used KCCC b/c there was nothing else. Re: the jherri curl look: the best way to tame that is to layer your gel with a butter/oil and then pineapple your hair on the first day you wash it. I pineapple every night and wash my hair at night. When I wake up, there's much less crunch and no jherri curl look going on lol.
