Rude Stares

It happens almost all the time when I go out. I'm used to people staring because of my "weird" fashion sense but it feels more personal when they stare at my hair. I know they're probably not used to seeing a short natural but to sit their and just gawk at me for a long time! I take great pride in my hair so I get really pissy about it when someone offends my hair in any way. A few hours ago I was at the gas station and a car with two chicks in it were right next to me. I heard one of them say "Look at that girl". I turned around and they were staring straight at me. We stared at each other for about 5 seconds before I glared and they turned away. I know I shouldn't let them anger me but like I said I get real offensive when it comes to my hair. It might take some time for me to learn to just ignore them.

You're probably very stunning to these people.

I know it can be uncomfortable (not to mention kinda rude) but I wouldn't think it an all together negative reason for them staring. You just command attention!

Well there have been times where I assumed the person was giving me a dirty look, then they'd say something to me like "how you do your hair like that" etc.. You probably look cute to them and they are in awe of your awesomeness LOL But seriously, take it with stride. I wear my hair with pride now and I think that my confidence shows to others. I ALWAYS stare at women with natural hair and wonder how they did that particular style, how long they've been natural, wow I wish I could touch their hair LOL Today I saw a 4b huge afro that was slicked in the front and wow what gorgeous hair. Had she looked at me she probably thought I was being a big weirdo LOL when in reality I was just admiring her hair.

Seriously, it is probably someone who is in awe of your hair. I wanted to go natural for so long, and every time I saw someone with beautiful natural hair, I wanted to stop them and talk to them and ask questions about how they did it, what they used in it, etc.
Once I did go natural, I started getting stopped in the store and on the street and at work. People did stare, but a lot of people asked questions and gave compliments. You never know.

sometimes people are just at awe about hair that they didnt think a "regular" person could achieve. they expect to see certain styles in the entertainment industry or on tv, but not in real life; so many times they want to ask about your hair; but they just dont know how, so they stare at it trying to figure it out;

Sometimes when people are staring at you, they do it because they think it's cool! That happened in my bio class last week, and I thought it was strange until a girl sitting next to me complimented me on my hair. Just take it in stride and go on about your business. Natural hair is da bomb, girl!

ITA with other postings.... more than likely they were admiring you and your locs. Don't ask me to tell you the exact source, but there was a scientific study that proves that our eyes "stick" longer to things that are attractive. I mean think about it.... how many people with "normal" hairstyles do we passively see in a day? ALOT....but the only ones we remember are the ones that peak your interest. (maybe thats why this site and all of the fotoki's are a black hole for my time......but I digress)

I agree with the others. They probably could not keep their eyes off you and so it came off as them staring. I found myself staring at this girl's hair in the train, her hair was awesome and I wanted to tell her, but I am shy and when she caught me I just gave her a smile. So sometimes it's not because they are rude, it's just that they can't help but stare.
