Fantasia IC Gel?

My hair is half wavy, half straigt (wavy front, straight back). Id like to go about wearing my hair out. I heard that Fantasia IC Gel with Sparkle Lites is good. Anyone with experience?
Hi RachelRegina,
You heard that the gel was good for what? Can you be more specific. As far as definition, it is great for giving the curls/waves/coils weight and giving your hair shine. It is also good for smoothing down edges, but I would say that it is better suited for pulled back styles like a ponytail, puff, or bun for a sleek look. It can also make your hair hard, even with conditioner and moisturizer underneath so you may not want to use it on the length of your hair. If you want to wear your hair out, I would suggest a light alchohol-free mousse so that it doesn't make your hair look greasy or stringy (the gel can do that) or just leaving cream conditioner in your hair will define your curls, reduce frizz, and give you shine without the geled hair look. You can check out threads on good conditioners to leave in the hair (not regular leave-ins)

Yeah, it does give good definition and clumps the natural curl in your hair. Is your hair naturally half wavy/straight or are you transitioning/heat damage etc.? If it is naturally this way, then yeah the IC will give you the best def., but it can dry hard on the hair. Yet, I would say that this is the healthiest gel (clear, aloe extract, moisturizing) for the hold and weight that it gives. I use it myself (the pic in my fotki avatar) but not often because it dries hard. If you are transitioning, then you can do twistouts/braidouts with a good moisturizer for a shorterm style. It will blend the different textures until your hair is all wavy. Hth.

EDIT: I no longer use Fantasia IC, have switched to more natural gels with less protein/extra Fantasia ingredients, which can harden/frizz my hair. Now use Giovanni L.A. Naturals and Kiss My Face Upper Management.

Yeah my hair is transistioning. I havent had a relaxer in since june of 08. So half my hair is wavy and half is straight. Thanks for the tips. I will do that.
I use it every couple days to help hold moisture and it really smooths out my coils. I put a bunch of my favorite oils into my gel to the point that it is cloudy, that helps a lot with the dryness and crunchiness. You could also add in some glycerin, I'm going to do that soon. But this gel can also cause buildup, so depending on how much you use it may change the amount you clarify your hair.
I'm not a huge fan of this gel. My hair gets really hard every time I use it and it also leaves a white residue in my hair. I experience the same result even when I use a dime side amount of the product. I have resorted to making my own Flaxseed gel and using it instead for curl definition and twists.
Is this gel CG friendly? I bought it because I heard raving reviews about it from people on here so i was pretty sure that it was CG friendly so I didn't even look at the ingredients when I purchased it and to be honest..i've never had a gel to make my hair shine like that..it's really the best gel I've ever used! And then I looked on the ingredients today just for kicks and I was pretty sure I saw a cone...I think it was Dimethicone Proplyn or something like that...so I wasn't sure if it was still a cone with the other word attached or not. I'm going to be so upset if I have to start over..my hair has been doing great since I've started CG and my hair hasn't felt any different with the IC gel either. IF it isn't CG friendly...can anyone recommend a gel that is and that also gives an AWESOME shine?

Yeah its water soluble but I have the time of my life trying to get this stuff out. It's drying and stripping when used to often. My hair takes days to recover.

HTH!
This gel seemed great to me at first. By the time I used half the jar, I realized it was drying out my hair. I tried sealing my hair before I used it, but it didn't work. It also left it feeling coated and nasty. Unless you co-wash your hair multiple times during the week, I would use with caution. Try Giovanni's hard hold gel.

I disagree. i love fantasia ic gel/pink. i have been using it for the past 3 days, and i love it. it gave me more definition then i have ever had. it did not dry my hair out. it may start to have a little build up, so i will no poo this weekend. it is cost efffecient. thank you ladies for the suggestions. after reading this thread i was convinced to try it. i use a little oyin frank juice for a leave in and have gotten fantastic results.
I don't have any relaxed parts in my hair so I'm not sure how much my experience will help.

I used ic gel for a Twist n Curl this week. My hair was soaking wet with a bit of conditioner still in it. I then used a dab of the ic (I literally dabbed my finger in the jar) and ran it through the section I was going to twist. I then put some oil and shea butter on the section... brushed it through (not the best technique to use a brush but I'm working on it) and then twisted my hair. When I took out the twists after two days, my hair didn't feel hard or have any white flakes. I didn't use much though, so I'm sure that had a lot to do with it.

I did use the ic to pull my hair back in a puff pony last week and it made my hair really hard.

So, from my experience, it depends on how much (and I'm sure how often) you use it.
If you want to wear it down using gel, I would try the www.tightlycurly.com conditioner only method. When I wear my hair down somtimes I use fantasia gel on top of conditioner. It lasts about 4 days if I keep it twisted at night.

Using castor oil under the gel does a wonderful job of keeping it from making your hair hard or dry.

I personally HATE IC gel.
That stuff leaves white flakes and is just not for me at all.
I'm pretty pissed I bought it.
What I use for my twist out is Herbal Essences Totally Twisted gel. I can wear my twist out for a week without twisting them back up! The only problem is that it makes me hair a little hard, but it is much better to me than IC gel.
I really do hate that stuff. Lol.
i didnt dig this gel that much either. I like the eco style better

I use a VERY SMALL AMOUNT for my twistout (a dab for each of my 20 twists). It works great on my hair. Again, I use a VERY SMALL AMOUNT... basically just enough to give it some hold without the crunch, flakes or dryness.
