I only oil my scalp when I don't plan to cowash daily, so basically only when I'm in protective styling mode.

I oil my scalp after I shampoo. I tend to have an itchy scalp, so I do this to help with that.

I oil mine nightly with a EO mixture I found on a website.
I heat it in the microwave.
2 drops Cedarwood
3 drops Lavendar
2 drops thyme
3 drops rosemary
1/8 cup jojoba, grapeseed

I hadn't been but used shea butter earlier this week to oil my scalp. So I will be incorporating this into my routine on the days that I don't cowash or poo as I'm another that tends to get an itchy scalp.

I oil it when it feels itchy with either jojoba oil mixture or lately burnt sugar pomade.

I don't use oil on my scalp, but when I'm going 3 or more days without water on my scalp, I'll spray some Curl Junkie Curl Fuel on it and my scalp and roots love that.

Yep. I currently moisturize at night with QB CTDG and some type of oil. I oil both my scalp and hair from root to tip. I hadn't thought to infuse my oil with herbs though. Great idea.

im on the fence about oiling my scalp. if i put too much oil on my scalp, it gets itchy due to buidlup. but if i dont oil my scalp, it gets itchy because its dry. go figure!

I used to and I started back a little over a week ago. I use an essential oil blend of rosemary, ylang ylang, peppermint and lemon in a base of jojoba and avocado oil. I find that jojoba and avocado oils are both light and absorbent enough that they don't sit on my scalp, plus rosemary, peppermint and lemon are all astringents. So, they are definitely working at keeping my scalp healthy. My reason for going back to help keep my hair ans scalp healthy while on my protective styling challenge.

i never put anything on my scalp. your scalp produces its own oil so why add more to it. plus putting oil on your head promotes growth? wouldn't it clog your pores?

Here's why I do scalp massages with oil. Though the scalp has its own oil that it excretes, it can still benefit from massages with oil. These treatments promote growth because they stimulate the circulation at the scalp and help nutrients reach the hair follicles faster. If you're using the right oils such as jojoba that resembles sebum, the oil treatment and massage can help the hair rejuvenate itself and promote the natural production of your hair's own oils. Also, this can help correct any imbalance that you have on your scalp and alleviate scalp conditions such as dandruff.

No, I don't. I use to grow up doing it because it part of the normal family routine when I was younger (and we did with petroleum and mineral-oil based products - eww!). But I found out later that I didn't have to oil my scalp because I have oily scalp and oily skin that is prone to pimples and breakouts. If you got oily skin, chances are you got oily scalp too so there's no need for oiling the scalp.
I can wash my hair one day and 3 days later I can scape a fingernail across my scalp and get sebum grit under my fingernail.
My scalp obviously builds up it's own oil so I spend my time washing my hair and scalp clean with either Ivory, Dove, or Aussie Moist and vinegar. While it is wet and soapy, I use a boar bristle brush to scub my scalp and brush-smooth my hair. Then I rinse, condition, and oil/greaze my hair, not the scalp. Then I plait. For the most part I keep my hair plaited and it stays moisturized.
I don't oil any of my children's scalp because their scalp is just fine and I never had a problem with dandruff on any of us (except when I was using petroleum products to oil my scalp).
My FH (former hubby) had very dry and scalp and got dandruff and sores sometimes (I think he had serrahic (sp?) dermatitis but never got diagnosed) and had to oil his scalp. That's the only time I recommend oiling the scalp.

So you ladies that oil your scalp between CO washes...do you wash out the oil the next day? Or do you just leave the oil in till you CO wash?

I do a scalp massages with black seed oil every night. It has rosemary essential oil in it. I do this after my nightly co-wash. My scalp has a tendency to be dry as well as my skin so I do more.

Nope. Don't apply oil directly to the scalp. Generally, the natural oils from my scalp do just fine. I can press my finger down on my scalp, and get oil on my finger. I've found that when if/when I do oil/butter my scalp, my scalp gets dry or flaky. But when I leave it be, it's fine.
I think sometimes oiling the scalp can block out moisture, the same way other no-no products can block out moisture. And since I don't want that, I leave it be. And most of the time, I cowash enough to minimize dry scalp anyway.
