Default Uncle Funky's Curly Magic

Ok, real quick. I compared UF to KCCC on 2 diff areas of my head on unwashed but drenched hair. Survey says: UF is basically a slightly lighter version of KCCC. I prefer KCCC though. It seems to be heavier so it's defining a bit more and my hair is hanging a bit better. The UF has frizzed just a little in the 30-45 min it's been on. They have all the same ingredients but UF lists aloe then infused water where KCCC lists infused water then aloe. But, maybe results will differ on clean hair. Ahem. With that, I'm off to scrubadub this head.

Oh, UF smells like old root beer that's lost it's fizz. Not hot.

i couldn't get it to work in my hair. she's coming to the natural hair meetup here in may so i'll be interested to see what she says about it.

btw, there used to be a dj here named "uncle funky" that was his radio/dj name, now tonya the co-owner went to middle school with me for a year but what i don't know if she was really uncle funky's daughter. i think she was, hence the name. the dj was really well known so the name makes perfect sense and it's catchy but i guess if you're not from here it might be kind of random....

hummm....interesting that they are coming out with a "curly" hair product line, because I went in for a consultation while I was working in TX, they were VERY challenged when it came to dealing with loose 3c/4a hair from what I could see. Really the only styles they offered were braids, twists, pressed natural hair, or shingled curly hair (I think they sold the Miss Jessies's products in the salon too). Most of the stylists specialized in braids and various twist styles and there was only 1 person that was really good at working with loose natural hair and NON of them could cut unless u got a blowout first. Let's just say I was less than impressed.

yeah there was a whole thread on np.com about houston stylists and that one didn't get great reviews. now i can say tonya did trim my hair (sans a blowout which i am vehemently opposed to for my own hair) way back when and it was okay. they do a good job of styling. i didn't think they did extensions but i could be wrong. the do sell miss jessie's and a bunch of other lines, including carol's daughter, etc. on the bottle they have a thing about hair that is wavy, curly or kinky showing the difference in each and what each needs. i don't know if they believe in cowashing, etc.

yes my cousin in Houston had a bad experience at Uncle Funky's also. They didn't know how to style curly hair at all. She was so mad that she wasted all her money and she said that Tonya was rude and unprofessional.
I think they are best at braids and locs.

I tried this. I liked it. I didn't leave my hair as crunchy as KCCC does, but it does have a little funky smell.

I dropped by Uncle Funky's Daughter on Friday and bought the Curly Magic. I had given my Kinky Curly away to my friend so it was a good excuse to buy something else. I like KCCC but the PJ in me had me curious.

I agree with ClarkiesMommy. It was a little lighter than KCCC and my hair did smell like root beer. It started to frizz at first, but then I wet my hair again and it was ok.

I applied the Curly Magic then flat twisted my hair. I plan to try this again because I untwisted my hair before it dried completely.

To diffuse the smell, I applied some Curls Whipped Cream and sat under a hood driver.

Verdict: Not sure yet but my hair was soft and moisturized once it finally did dry.
