Do you do your own Kinky Twists?

Tazzy,
Actually, the hair I think is called Bob Marley Curl but when I was searching for it, it was under the category afro kinky bulk or something...

Yea they are pretty expensive to get here too if you want them good. Around $150-250 and that is just too much for me when I don't know if I'll keep them.

In the process of emptying my cabinets.

Currently trying to formulate the perfect styling pudding. Once that happens all other things left over will be thrown out, given away. From then on I'm only buying to RESTOCK.

I wear braids a lot and sometimes the itchies just drive you crazy!

This thread has inspired me to bust out my unopened-for-years Braids by Breslin DVD on kinky twists. I think I can do it! Hopefully, I can do them over this long weekend.

Here's a great website for weaving, braiding, ponytails, wigs, etc: www.hairsisters.com

One thing I can say about going natural and being on this site, is that I'm itching to do my own hair! Since going natural like t*** months ago, I've learned to flat twist and cornrow/braid my own hair! I'm thinking about doing kinky twists and crochet braids/weave soon based off posts on NC.com

I've paid big bucks (like $200 a pop) for kinky twists, micros or to get my friends to do them for a lil less. When I can just do them myself!

Now hopefully I dont end up looking a hot mess! But if I do, I didnt pay $200 for it! Lol

What is the best human hair for kinky twists other than Khamit Kinks ($55.00 oz.) and other than lugos ($55.00 oz)?

The synthetics makes my head itch like crazy. I used the 4.99pk the first time and the second time I used Harlem 125 which was a lil better but it itched like crazy also. I just bought a pack to test it out. It's human and it's by Milky Way afro bulk 16". Only thing that was good about the synthetic is that it is very long and it's much easier to make shoulder length but I can't take the itch. I even tried spraying water mixed with hair conditioner. It was a lil better but still itched. I already put the human in and it doesn't itch at all. Plus it is really soft and it looks so real.

The hair I bought is afro kinky hair. The difference between this hair and regular braiding hair is that this one has a kinky type pattern, with a wave or curl... you would notice it, its really thick and it does better for the kinky twists.

I know this is an old thread but I wanted to chime in here...
The synthetic hair has a kind of coating on it that might be the cause of your itching.. You should probably soak the synthetic hair in ACV and hot water for a while, to take the coating off. I do that, then spray the hair with some kind of moisture, this way it won't suck up the moisture from my hair when I begin twisting.

I've done three sets of kinky twists on myself since January and plan to put in another set this weekend. I've used all different kinds of hair, some great, some not so great. Just make sure you take the alkaline base off the hair and coat it with some kind of moisturizer...
Natural.. Take Two!
Wow, I actually forgot about this after I did my crochet hair but the hair did come, I can tell by looking at it, that it won't be enough, they are like presectioned already and it says you can crochet this hair in.

I twisted in two packs of Marley braids a few weekends ago (after pre-washing the synthetic hair) and almost took the lead in Predator V. My hair was HYUGE! And I have a big head, too.

I spent all Saturday night putting them in and took them out Sunday morning. To top it off, the hair was more coarse than my own and itched me, too!

*sigh*

But it was funny, I have to admit.
I twisted my hair with long kinky twist extensions in late 2007. I wished I took pictures of it. It came out ok and I used 6 packs of hair to complete the look. That's my main pet peeve about braiding my hair requires lots of extensions. While for some they only need 2-4 packs of hair no not for me. My head is big, well not really big I just have lots of hair.
