Herbal Essence Hello Hydration Dillema

Ok, here's my problem: I have been free form natural for almost 5 months. I have gotten to the point where I use all natural products only. And I don't use silicones. Once I started reading about different ingredients and how some are suspect, can be bad, may not be bad but we're not sure, etc., I just decided it would be easier for me and better to just go completely all natural. That way I don't have to worry about what I'm putting in my hair.

BUT I am looking for a new co wash. V05 is not cutting it and I tried Suave once, but it didn't ring any bells either. I have wanted so badly to try HEHH cause it looks so creamy and people say it's so great, however, this stuff has more ingredients in it that a toxic sewer! Quite frankly, some of the ingredients down right scare me, mainly cause I don't know what they mean, but they sound bad. And it's got like 20 silicones in it.

Question: Now that all my products are all natural, should I still try HEHH anyway? If I do, how do I get the silicones out of my hair? Should I then invest in an SLS shampoo to get this mess out, or is it not that serious and the ingredient list is not as scary as it looks? Do you use it? Is it worth me introducing silicones in my hair? Remember, if you think I should use it, please tell me what you recommend to get the silicones out and how often should I clarify!

I think you should try it. I've been using it but for a DT rather than a co-wash. I tried it as a co-wash, but I wasn't too happy with the results that way, BUT every head is different and you might like it!

You can still use lo-poos with no SLS and be rid of cones. When I first started using HEHH I would come across some very minor build up that I would clear up by co-washing with a cheapie (v05) after every use. I think it's worth trying and if you don't like it then you can just stop using it.

I say no. If avoiding cones has been working for you, why mess up a good thing?
LOIS (OS); cottony, TYPE 4 hair, fine/med strands; no cones bcz my hair hates them; last relaxer '98; now low porosity, ignores most natural hair rules; BC #8

faves: suave, v05 shampoo, conditioner (my own), raw shea butter, castor oil, peanut oil, aloe juice
I say no. I'm mostly cone-free, so I tried the HH and it was a no-go. My hair turned white and it had little white balls. The only other product I had in my hair was FOTE (aloe gel), so there shouldn't have been any issues. I guess I should have known it wouldn't work. The only conditioner with cones I've been able to use is ElastaQP DPR-11 for my DC. Luckily, I only bought the sample size for $0.99 at Walmart. If you feel like you absolutely must try it, then I suggest getting the sample/travel size.

The majority of the products I use are all natural too with the exception of HEHH. I say try it! You don't need SLS shampoo to get it out either; the green bottle of Creme of Nature shampoo or a diluted version of Dr Bronner's castile soap work for me.

Its just conditioner, if you don't like the results you can just wash your hair again. I use only natural products too(now) and I tried hello hydration, it did nothing for my hair and that was the last of it

I wouldn't use HEHH as a co-wash. If you're looking for a rich co-wash, GVP Matrix Biolage Conditoning Balm is an excellent one and contains no cones. I use it and dilute it on my hair to make it work even better.

Check out the ingredients list at Cosmetics Database.

I use Trader Joe's Nourish Spa Refresh and Whole Foods 365 for my co-wash.

There aren't 100% pure but better than some and very reasonably priced. TJ's is $2.99 for 16 oz. and WF's is $4 - 5 for 32 oz.

I'm actually glad I started this thread! It's really helped me make my decision. I think I'm going with the "if it ain't broke, don't try and fix it" mentality and keep HEHH on the shelf. When I first cut my locks I was using a conditioner with a cone in it, but not 3 and not with all those other horrible sounding ingredients.
I think I'm going to leave it alone.

i have used herbel essence hello hydration and the slip was incredible...my hair felt awesome, honestly better then with v05...cones are not always a bad thing..you just need a good clarifying cleaner and you can get this with baking soda...cone might work for you....what don't work for some, may just as well work for you....i never had a problem with cones, and honestly, i still use hh....i really like it....i use no shampoo, just baking soda and warm water once or twice a month....so by all means try it......right now i use v05 as a daily co wash, and kinky curly not today as a leave in....works fine...but i live in upstate Washington, therefore, i have to order everything for my hair..so im just trying to find something where i dont have to pay shipping charges since i have no Trader Joes, Rickys, or any other place to buy stuff from..Herbel Essence and v05 are it....I like kinky curly knot today, but i don't like having to pay 12.00 plus 10.00 for shipping and handling, cones or no cones (lol)......so by all means, try it....i would never tell anyone what they should or should not try, because like i said, what may not work for me may work for you

HEHH only has one cone in it. it has bis aminopropyl dimethicone . i read that this cone helps to prevent build up of other cones(i believe) and works sorta like amodethicone does. i have seen two types of HEHH around, one with the bis aminopropyl dimethicone toward the middle of the list and one with the regular demethicone and i think cyclomethicone toward the beginning of the list, but i never get the one with the regular demethicone in it

I would say a big No. At the moment the only products I own are VO5 Moisture Milks Conditioner, Herbal Essence Hello Hydration Conditioner, Cantu Shea Butter Leave In Conditioner, Fantasia IC Gel, and two drops of KCCC. My hair is soo dry and dull looking it is not funny. Yea, cheap conditioners give you some moisture while you are in the shower but after that you're on your own. I saved up to invest in good natural products that will contribute to the long term health of my hair. If you already have natural products, I would stick with them.
Current Regimen: I am doing protective styles for the winter. Two Strand Twists and Twist Outs. Wet hair in the middle of winter is not cute.
Favorite Products: Komaza Care Coconut Line, Kinky Curly Line, and Africare 100% Glycerin
Never Again: Carol's Daughter, Miss Jessie's, Garnier Fructis, Hot Oil Treatments
Hair Type: Texture-Spongy, Strand Size-Medium, Curl Pattern-I in the front, O in the middle, and S in the back. 4a
the reason im switching is i have been using ecostyler gel for a month and a half, and I just found out that ecostyler gel has cones in it that are not water soluble....HH worked better in my hair then v05, not that i don't like v05.I REALLY liked HH....I never had a problem with cones.

I have a 17 oz bottle of this that I need to get rid of
Finally found my staples
Hi I have a question.. I used this conditioner like 2 months ago but never shampoo'd with a sulfate. I'm now using Curl and Shine Shampoo from Shea Moisture but I have noticed a LOT of shedding when detangling. Is it coming from the cones from HEHH? or just a lot of breakage?
Hi, how are you. Might I offer up an alternative to the cones in the Hello Hydration. I used the HH, it was..very slippery and coating in my daughter's hair. It wasn't a result that I was fond of in her hair, so I searched on. I tried the VO5, but it's more watery that I like. So, lately I have been using the Tresseme Naturals Nourishing Moisture Conditioner from Walmart. I really like it. I started using it when I was trying out the tightly curly method, and it kind of just stuck with me. It's got great ingredients, slip, smells nice, you can get it on the ground, and it's for around $5. Give it a try, you may like it.

Also, as a rule of thumb...i always try to clarify once a month to help with product build up
